GP visit today.

So I feel such a fraud. After graduating on 23rd September I’ve only run as far as between 2 lampposts on 2-3 test occasions. One being today before my doctors appointment. Result is soft tissue damage and possibly ligament. Been given stronger anti inflammatories and a compression bandage and told to elevate as much as poss. Try again in a few days. Really getting to me now 😢

Edited to show that I’m looking after myself. After a nice bath I’m dat with compression bandage on, ankle raised and watching Doctor Foster 😄

Hello! I noticed you said you were from Manchester, well I'm from just down the road in Stockport :)

Congratulations on graduating! No-one can take that away from you, you did it fair and square. You've got your proud graduate badge, see?

I know it's easy for me to say, but don't blame yourself, not your fault. I know it's frustrating not to run when you've just graduated, but the doctors usually know what they are talking about.

Not quite sure what else to say, other than even if you have to rest up for a few weeks, you know you have what it takes to get back out there, and just because you've graduated doesn't mean you can't come back here for a brew and a chat!!

I wish you well for your recovery, do let us know how you get on!!

All the best,

Neil

Hi Neil 👋🏻 yes I’m from Worsley. So not too far. Are you doing the Great Manchester Run next May with us??

I have a couple of virtual races booked in for October. But it says I can walk so I’m still going to get my medals!!

Ooh that's something, I hadn't thought beyong graduation, mainly because it never occurred to me I'd get past week 1!!! Let's see if I manage to finish C25K first, but doing a 10k would definitely give me something to aim for. Thanks for mentioning it. I take it you're up for it?

Yes I am. A couple on here are but I can’t tag because my phone doesn’t allow me to. Plenty of time to build up to it. I want to do a half marathon next October then a marathon before I’m 40. That gives me 5 years and 3 weeks to train 🙂

I'm sure it's just a temporary set back. After all you've achieved don't be disheartened. Listen to your body and I hope things settle down soon

I’m hoping the new tablets will help. I’m sure it is just temporary, it’s my birthday this month and I’m sure my husband has bought me running themed gifts so I need to make sure it’s not a waste of money 😂

Heal and then take it every slow and steady... after Graduation...the consolidation runs of thirty minutes and the follow on building up strategies are essential :)

The C25K only starts the whole building up process... so take it gently :) If you need to walk in those virtual runs, then walk... take care of you...You, are your best piece of running equipment :)

I had all follow on planned at 3 mins increase per week 😢 but when I get back I’ll start back with some intervals again. Going to edit my post with a picture of my current position.

Oh Mrs T you poor thing, your RICE treatment hopefully will get you well soon. And btw no fraud going on you ran the time, so deserved the bling well and truly. Hope Erica and Flynn are looking after you, although in fairness to Flynn I'm thinking a smiley gurgle may be all you can ask for.

Big hugs from Italy and hope you get well soon...

Flynny likes to call me ‘daddy’. He finds it funny. He’s a cheeky little sausage. Erica is looking after me too but she now wants a bandage on her wrist because it’s ‘swollen’, it’s not but we entertain her anyway. Just without the bandage. It’s all good fun.

Oh no! But defo best to rest right up to be on the safe side, to spare even longer on the IC. It was noticeably colder out this morning and my legs weren't liking it at all, we'll all need a more thorough stretch and warm up once winter comes. I didn't realise it would make such a difference!!

Whilst you are on the sofa revel in everything you've achieved so far doing all of this. You've done fantastically, feel and believe it and no more calling yourself a fraud! Running will still be waiting patiently for you, when you are fully recovered. I graduated 2 months ago and I am still doing 30 mins x 3 week. Which is just right for me .... I am just starting to think I might do another 5 mins at the weekend when I have the time. But that might change when I get there :) No rush though.

That’s amazing that you’ve kept up the 30 x 3! Well done xx

Poor you :( YOu're not a fraud, you're graduated and you've hurt yourself. Usain Bolt with a twisted ankle is still a runner, albeit one who earns a lot more and runs a lot faster than the rest of us.

Make sure you rest it for long enough - the anti-inflammatories will make it feel better, but it still needs time to heal. Read "Running like a girl" if you haven't done so already - a very fun and informative book.

I’ll have a look for that. Thank you xx

Sorry to hear you are on the ic MrsT.😯

Hope you get better soon, take the advice from your doc and ease back when the time comes.

Take care and plenty of new runners on here will value your encouragement 😊x
