I had a fabulous run this morning. My playlists was turned up extra loud so that I could just about hear it and I was enjoying some new tunes to accompany my tourist run.
I had parked at Bradford upon Avon, and after a 5 minute warm up walk around the town, looking for GingerBohemian 's birthplace blue plaque, I set off along the River Avon. It was a beautiful route through Avoncliff and Freshford to Ifford, and although I was slow (due to negotiating large swathes of mud, and stopping to take photos), I felt I could run and run.
I'd probably gone too far, so decided to turn back fearing I'd overstretched myself. Just as my legs were threatening to turn to lead "I Ran" by Flock of Seagulls came on, and the new lyrics just formed in my head and kept me going, despite me running over the wrong bridge and getting rather disorientated. (Thought of you Jancanrun and antet 🤓)
🎶
I ran along the riverbank
I never thought I'd see the sky so blue,
The sky so blue.
With golden sun and fluffy clouds
A gentle breeze which keeps me feeling cool,
Feeling cool.
🌤☁️🌬
And I ran, I ran so far away,
I just ran
Through brambles in my way.
I could have run all day.
🍃🏃🏽♀️🍃
There's lots of mud along the track,
It's really squelchy underfoot like goo,
Squelchy just like goo.
Go through a kissing gate,
I run a slalom through pats of cow poo,
Tread carefully through poo.
🐄🐄🐄🐄
And I ran, I ran so far away,
I just ran
Then sheep got in my way,
I had to get away.
🐑🐑🐑
The sun shines on the water still
Two swans reflected in it as they flew,
Reflected as they flew.
A heron stands with head held high,
And up ahead an aqueduct's in view,
An aqueduct's in view.
☀️
And I ran, I ran so far away,
I just ran,
Canal crossed o'er the river way.
And I saw boats at bay.
🏃🏽♀️
Avoncliff was left behind,
And now the path goes up steep, " Puff, pant, phew"
It's so steep, "Puff, pant, phew."
But then it's time to turn around,
I nearly get lost at a bridge, it's true,
My route back is confused.
😅🤔
And I ran, I ran so far away,
I just ran,
I ran so far today,
I managed 13k!
😃

13k!!!!! , That's 13KM! Bold Underlined, 13K.
KKKKKKKKKKKKKin Hell....
So now the retro runner's playlist has to be long enough to accommodate you and your 13ks. Wow but I think I may have that 13km covered...
Jan, I love your blog. Thank you for the dedication. The playlist looks epic, it's going to take me a while to add all these to mine, but will certainly be good on these longer runs (not that I'm planning too many like this as my legs are complaining now.
I was thinking about maybe writing a blog but just don't know how to go about it, or if I'd have enough to say/write.
I don't really know any Sad Café. What track were you thinking of?
Done - I've updated on the retro runners page and also on today's blog post, cos I mentioned you there too. antet and lardofale if you want to come up with new ones, then I will add and then name and fame you on the site...
BTW Razouski - I haven't got much to say on my blog either, if you look closely you will definitely see that my blog posts hinge on something stupid like someone overtook me... truthfully it's sleepyville here and you go to all those nice places with all your lovely pics too, so you'd have lots to write about -oh and you did 13kms, that's 6 more than me, so that's 6 more clicks to talk about...
I on,y have one of these in any of my running p,aylists. I think I'm going to have to start a new list otherwise I'll have to run for hours to hear them all!
Love the retro runners blog 😀 - happy for you to use my username too. Amazing run Razouski - I’m still out of action having been felled by a cold so hoping to get back to it soon. How about ‘Running down a dream’ by Tom Petty? Squeaks into the 80s category and a fitting tribute too. Nice driving beat as well.
Fantastic! Looks like I'll digging around my record collection for my Heaven 17 & OMD , not sure I've got 13ks worth of those though....maybe add some Human League and Thompson Twins ;0)
OMG lardofale , I hadn't even thought about Human League or Thompson Twins!!!! I loved them Hidden and antet i feel more tracks to add to the ever increasing playlist. 😂
I was singing the Flock of Seagulls song from your headline then the whole new lyric version in your post! I'm sure Mike & Ali Score will be in touch to update!
You can be added to the retro runners roll call! But it does get addictive... I lost my Thompson Twins as part of divorce settlement..., so I had forgotten about them
I’ve got in on vinyl. Probably not listened to it since about a week after I bought it. Angela Witham liked them and I fancied her so I needed to know the lyrics
I'm actually an idiot Mummycav as I then had to drive from Chippenham to Luton, and then this evening travel into London for choir rehearsal, and my legs are now aching so much I could gladly chop them off. 😂
Thanks Oldfloss , my ear is still odd, but not as bad as at the weekend. However my legs are now complaining- I think I'll be taking an extra rest day or maybe two. 🤓
Went to the GP today and actually got to see a doctor. Although the hearing loss isn't as bad as its was last Friday, she looked in my ear and said she really didn't feel confident in view of my previous hearing loss and wanted to refer me to an ENT specialist. So I'm now going back to Addenbrooke's on Saturday to be checked out. Thanks for asking. x
Love your new lyrics Razouski! Forgot all about Flock - will need to add them to my list too! And an amazing 13k too! Wow! Lovely pics as well. Love the Retro runner playlist Jan! A couple of 80s tracks I recalled yesterday were Modern English "Melt with you" and Madness "One step Beyond" and The English Beat - "Rankin Full Stop"- one of my faves
Started something now!! I saw tears for fears and blancmange years ago at our local nightclub...they used to put up and coming bands on. Need to trawl through my old collections!!
I use Deezer, my husband subscribes and we can use it on 4 or 5 devices. You can also download and listen offline too (which is why my phone is nearly full.
