Sorry this is a long post but I thought to share my story with you.
Since June this year have been battling severe Laryngitis and was diagnosed with dysphonia which is a disorder of the vocal chords. This resulted because of acid reflux in my vocal chords due to stress and taking on too much. I completely lost my voice; couldn't utter a word. My world came crashing down because I am a professional singer and I was told I may not be able to sing again. I was told not to speak for three weeks. Further tests were done and they found out I have asthma and my liver was being suppressed due to the weight around my waist line. I was put on tablets and also I am undertaking speech therapy. Because of not being able to communicate properly as I was texting and emailing a lot which resulted in me getting my right wrist tendons inflamed so I'm also going for physiotherapy. The doctors told me I need to lose weight otherwise this will get worse.
The feeling of emptiness kicked in me and I started losing a few friends along the way I never thought I would. In complete distress and utter shock, I thought how the hell am I going to sort this out? Then I came across this app and you guys. I signed up to the C25K app and here I am sharing with you I am going for my second run soon. I just wanted to share that no matter what we are struggling with, if we put our minds and hearts into it we can do it. It also helps who we have around us as it helps our minds to be clear and positive. I may have only been here for four days but you have all made a great impact on me. I feel I can take anything on with a good mind and a good heart. With this positive mindset I was told yesterday by the doctors that I finally can sing again but I need to take it slowly but surely.
I'm sorry this is a long message but I just want to let you know that I appreciate you and all that you're going through. Our journeys are different but boy the empathy and compassion on here is just amazing. Good luck for your run today let me know how you get on. X

This is a supportive, non judgemental and highly positive community and I hope you feel at home here. Your litany of personal disasters is quite shocking to read and arriving at C25K doesn't necessarily seem like a logical outcome. However this programme has so many benefits, both physical and mental, that I am confident that you will gain hugely by following the plan and posting your progress on the forum.
Take each run as slow as you need to, there is no rush. Repeat any run you can't complete, then move on. You will see progress remarkably quickly and in a few weeks time you will be able to run for thirty minutes.
Your body along with your confidence and self-esteem will develop and you may find your life changing in ways you could never imagine.
Something that's surprised me is not the only improvement in my physical being but the impact on my mental health and the boost to confidence and self belief.
Keep posting and letting us know how you're doing and yes your new running family is here to support you on your ongoing journey
Gosh you have been through the ringer my love. Welcome! Slowly does it. Don't worry about the 'friends' you have lost along the way - true friends stay with you - and you have us lovely lot to cheer you along this particular journey π¬
I am so sorry to read all that you have been through but I think that starting running is oddly a great response. The mental health effects are well documented but I think are surprising all the same. To me the real benefit is that it clears the mind and brings serenity. It may not make your problems go away when there are lots of things to deal with and you don't know where to start it helps you untangle the mess in your mind, and puts you in a better position to handle each issue, one by one.
Then of course, if you are trying to become healthier physically it will certainly help. C25K will probably not make you lose weight by itself, but as part of an overall change including diet, it definitely won't hurt. I think there is also a weight loss forum on here.
The other great benefit is seeing yourself progress and having lots of little achievements to take pride in along the way - definitely a boost to your self-esteem.
I hope you'll keep posting, so we can applaud your achievements and support you as you go along.
Well done for completing your second run. I am at the same stage. I found your post very interesting and pleased you can start to do what you love and sing again. Keep on with the running and good slick with W1 R3
What a super post, you have a definite determination going there, good luck with the programme, you will do just brilliant, keep in touch to let us all know how you get on π
Poor you - that's an awful story. Doubly well done to you for getting started on C25k. I hope it makes a huge difference to you, both mentally and physically. Make sure to have your rest days too as your body is fighting other stuff and probably has even more need of repair time than the average runner. God bless you. x
I hate to hear that story.. but it's wonderful that you have started working to get in shape!! Can't wait to follow your story as you progress through the program!! Good Luck!
I know, just reading back at it has made me upset of what I have been through. But you know what I'm going to challenge myself to get through this through my mind and fitness along with good diet and all the right people around me. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement

You are right!! I have been through a lot both physical and mental health wise... and it's always hard to look back.. but then when you improve it is amazing to see where you have come from!!
So glad you're feeling better. I've got to say of it wasn't for the support from the lovely people on this forum I wouldn't have finished the program. Good luck and my advice to you is never give up! It's made a high impact on my life, my confidence and body. X
I totally agree, this is such a friendly site. The support & encouragements I've received after posting is fab. I've read so many heartwarming stories in the last week & half since I joined. Each & everyone is motivating me. I did my first Wk 3 run this morning.
Glad you can start singing again ππ» Who needs headphones & music when you can sing while you run.
Good luck on the coming weeks π ππ»ββοΈ
Wow...what a story...?! Glad you feel you can share it with all of us though, we are a nosey bunch!! We are all running along with each other from the graduates to the newbies...you'll get tonnes of advice, encouragement, pats on the back & kicks up the butt (when needed!!) on here...my 'running family' have got me where I am...only one run to go & there have been days when I thought I'd never be able to see the end of this programme but here I am!!! And here you are! I'm slightly envious of you starting this journey because I've had a right good time...ups, downs, surprises, laughs, you name it, it's all on here!!! If you read back on some people's posts you can see that it CAN BE DONE no matter what you circumstances...like you've been advised about your voice..take it slow & steady, listen to your body but most of all...enjoy it!!! A warm welcome heading your way πππ
