Just done week 3 R2 and found it really hard, going to give Week 3 an extra run to try and build it up but when I last ran 3 years ago it seemed much easier, I am 46 and fat :)

46 and doing really well by the sound of it. It's always hard as the programme is progressive so anyone on it is always running at their limit. Trust the programme move forward and you'll look back in week 9 wondering why five minutes jogging ever seemed so hard - honest 😀

You build stamina by progressing through the programme. Each week will be tougher so every run will be a challenge. It won't get easier, but you will get stronger. When you graduate and have built up a regular running regime over a few weeks it will feel easier- though that's the time to try running faster, further or both.

Please resist the urge to plateau on a week, it won't make the next week easier when you do it, and will just serve to stall your progress.

I did C25k four years ago. I can now run for over ten miles at the age of 61, without much difficulty, but at the outset I was much like most new runners, exhausted after a very short while.

Stamina doesn't kick in, it builds slowly, run by run. Sticking with one week on the plan will not build your stamina to any much greater degree than doing that week once. Move on, run longer, increase your stamina.

Age slows you down but you can fight against its ravages and if you maintain your running habit, then you too will be able to run ten miles, should you wish to but you don't build the stamina to run ten miles by only ever running five.

Keep progressing in both body and mind.
