First bit of bling🏅

Completed the 5k back to the trenches yesterday. I am ruined today but feel a bit proud of myself. We raised 2k for charity.

It was epic, but to be honest I didn't get to run as much as I wanted because we all stuck together as a group which was lovely to cross the finish line as a team.

My legs don't feel too bad it just every other muscle that aches. As a snap shot of how tough/fun they made it I had to commando crawl trough mud and water, under electric fences, under barbed wire. I had to jump over a fire and slide down a massive water slide into chest high water! As well as climb over absolutely loads of stuff and hills and tire pulls and oh yeah swim through a lake at the end!

Kinda loved it though, but can't wait to do a bit of 'normal' running! 🏃

Wow. Well done. I wouldn't do that. No bloody way. Parkrun and 5k road races are good for me thanks. Couldn't get my Brooks dirty.😀

Congratulations on completing the event and on raising the funds. Great achievement. Love the bling. You should be very proud.

Thank you, I'm not sure I'd ever feel the urge to dive into a load of mud outside of one of these things but the adrenaline was certainly pumping!

I'm thinking about doing a park run next. Just to see what it's like. Problem is I know what I'm like, I already want to sign up for another back : the trenches just so I can see if I can do a bit better and faster than yesterday! When I looked at the results for my local park run the person who came in first did it on 17mins?! I mean come on! But also there is a little voice in my head that says 'why don't you see how fast you can go?' Are park runs generally uber competitive or is there good comradery?

The beauty of Parkrun is that you are only competing against yourself. When you do your first Parkrun just set off at your own nice relaxed comfortable pace and try to run the full 5k. But if your tired and feel like a walk break, then take a walk break and get back to running again. Just take your time and enjoy it.

The next time you do a Parkrun you will have a PB time to try and beat. You are just competing against your PB time.

No one cares who comes 1st, 2nd or 3rd at Parkrun. It's personal to everyone. Even the people who come in at around 17 mins are chasing their own PB time.

After a few weeks you will start to recognise others who will run at a similar pace to you. And as you get to know them you can chat and have company as you run. Some days you could try and beat your PB, another day you could just run a nice comfortable one and enjoy the atmosphere.

You will love it.

Thank you so much that makes a lot of sense. The bit of yesterday I enjoyed most was having other people to talk to as I went. When I am recovered I will sign up for one! Thank you again.
