Shin splints

I've just done Run 1, Week 2. My shins killed and do every time I run. They still hurt now whilst just sitting. Should I stop running?

I'd say yes, if you are in pain, and I know how much shins can hurt, then yes you should rest. It doesn't have to be forever - but you need to check your shoes first of all. Do you have proper running shoes?

I have Clima cools. I haven't been fitted for proper shoes though , no.

All I can say is my shin splints were caused by inappropriate shoes and went as soon as I got some good ones. I had been running in ordinary trainers though, I didn't know about running shoes. I could barely walk, I couldn't even contemplate running - bloomin' painful, shin splints, aren't they?

Thank you. I don't know what to do really as I don't want to spend a lot of money and then still have them. Thank you for helping me though.

Ahh, that's the problem! I bit the bullet and never regretted it...I think good shoes are the foundation of running, and a good sports bra if you are a gurly of course!

To find the right shoes for you you need to go to a specialist running shop that does gait analysis. They will advise what is right for you, not try to sell their own brand, such as at Sports Direct and their devotion to Karrimor, which may be fine, but the staff probably will know less than you about running shoes.

It is a big investment but totally worth it. Once you know what works for you, you can buy online or in sales.

Agree with the others, def go to a decent ship for proper analysis... not sure where you are, but I went to Sweatshop in Reading. I told them that I was a new runner & didn't want really expensive shoes & after analysis, the person brought out several pairs of reasonably priced shoes from previous years models. I think they were very reasonably priced & I absolutely love them!

Thank you, all! I have really bad knees after yesterday's run today so I'm starting to think it's not good for me lol

Before starting C25K I had tried running & had terrible pain in my knees - not sure whether it was all down to the new shoes, but I did get them just before starting the program as an incentive to sticking with it, & other than occasional niggles, my knees have been good :-)
