Hi everyone, my names camran, I tried the couch to 5k programme earlier today but just failed drastically on day 1 so a bit frustrated with myself lol to say the least
Day 1: Hi everyone, my names camran, I tried... - Couch to 5K
Day 1
Hi Camran. Firstly you didn't fail. You can't fail if you try. You can only fail by not getting out and trying.
Although this is a 9 week course, there isn't a time limit on how long it takes you to complete each week.
Trust me when I say we have all had bad days. Multiple things can affect your run. Hot weather, slept badly, ran too fast etc etc.
Please keep trying and don't give up. Plenty of people here will help you.
Keep trying Camran...you haven't failed, you've succeeded by getting out there...have a rest for a day or two then get your trainers on and get back out there...you can do this
Hey Camran, you have done the hard bit by getting out there, keep going, there are so many wise and experienced people on here to help you, keep posting as you go. 😁
You're totally fine. Next time slow it right down. And if you still can't complete all 8 segments that's okay. I am coming back from an injury and had to start with 4 running segments, because I couldn't do 8. But you just keep plugging along and you'll get there.
Without trying to make any excuses I haven't ran in years today was the first day I actually ran so if I'm honest I don't think I should be expecting any kind of miracles what I need to do is keep trying!!
Hi Camran. You're not allowed to use the 'f' word!! As Malc73 said you didn't fail. You sound like you're willing to give the run another go too, which is brilliant. We all started off as non runners and we've all been at W1 R1 so keep us posted on your progress. Good luck for the next one Camran
As they say Camran fail stands for First Attempt In Learning so keep on trying. I started yesterday and didn't do very well either but got lots of supportive posts so ready to try again tomorrow more slowly this time (if that's possible😀). Keep at it and good luck
Well done - as you've already been told, you've done the hardest part by getting out there. I took 3 weeks (YES, THREE WEEKS!) to get through W1 so if I can get to the end and now enjoy running then so can you. Keep posting, you'll get all the help you need.
If your best friend took their courage in both hands and stepped out on the first day of a challenge, would you tell them they had failed when they got back? Nope. Lesson number one in running and indeed in life in general: be your own best friend. Tap yourself unashamedly on the back for getting out there and leaving the 'before' you on the sofa. You are awesome. You rock. And if you take one run at a time, you will be running for 30 minutes, non stop, when you finish the programme. Or you can decide that you don't want to take the risk of trying, and still be in the same place in a year's time. Which do you prefer? C'mon, join the sweaty t-shirt and red-faced runner club. We've all been in the same place as you, and we're all rooting for you.
Brilliant response I think being your own best friend is a great way of showing how the mental will can help the physical.
Well done in getting out and doing run 1. You have 2 more goes at week one, they are all there for a reason. But if you feel you want to repeat a run from this week once you've attempted all 3, then go ahead. You can follow it at whatever pace you want as long as you follow the main rule of at least one rest day between runs.
Lots of luck for run 2. Make sure you let us know how you get on. Take it slowly and you'll get there. Xx
Agree with MrsT totally. Slow and steady gets you there.
Even if you didn't complete it you be started using the muscles and building the physical and psychological foundation to do it, practice runs are just as important and don't forget your rest days, that's the days your body recovers and gets stronger so you can start nailing the running days! Keep at it.
Well done for getting off the couch!
Well done you getting out there and making a start makes you a winner, don't think any of us have found it easy and those first weeks are a killer both physically and mentally but as we gain confidence in ourselves and the programme it gets easier.
Once again good on yer, keep going
I did that. My first day I could complete any of the runs but on run 2... I did it. I was so blooming chuffed. You haven't failed, you're achieving what you set out to do. You got your ass off the sofa. Thursday you'll succeed, I bet ya.
Xx
Well done for getting out there and giving it your best go. Every step you take you're improving your fitness and health and that's what we're all here to do! This is a very supportive place and we'll all keep cheering you on!
You can do also week 0 as a preparation which is very brisk walking for 30 min.
Just keep going out and doing the session, it will get better with time!
I had 2 longer and several shorter breaks in the programme. Recently I started from the beginning after over 3 months break. It is taking me longer than 9 weeks, as life sometimes comes in the way. But I am now at week 6
You can do it! As long as you're going out and running, you are improving! So the only fail is not tying
Have a day rest and go out and do as good as you can and be proud of not sitting on the couch any more.
I am NOT a runner! I managed week 1 and am now repeating it! There is no time limit. My run technique is to put one foot in front of the other and jog SLOWLY ! You will get better - don't give up!
