So the last time I posted on here, I was feeling sorry for myself after getting an injury, but after four and a half weeks, I finally got myself off the IC and back to running again!
I’m still not 100% yet, but at this point, close enough that I felt I wouldn’t be doing myself an injury by going back out again.
I wasn’t sure where to start off from, because it would have broken my heart having to go back to the start again. I was at W7R2 so, reasonably comfortable running for 25 minutes non stop – no way I would still be able to do that. So on my first run last week, I thought about aiming to repeat W5R3, (emphasis on aiming to) if I didn’t quite get there, that would be a starting point to work from. And sort of as expected, I didn’t make it for the full 20 minutes. I ended up doing jog for 9, walk for 2, jog for 4, walk for 2, jog for 3 and then a cool down, but I didn’t stop! Before, the pain I was having was in my back and hip, now I only really feel a pain in my hip when I’m running, and to be honest, I didn’t feel like I had to pause to walk because I was particularly out of breath, it was more to do with the pain! I was a bit worried it was going to stop me getting back out again, but kept trying to remind myself that I hadn’t been out for nearly five weeks, it was bound to take some getting used to again!
Since then, I have been trying to get back up to 20 minutes before I start back properly from there, and oddly enough, I’ve found that W6R2 has been helping! The big number of 20 minutes doesn’t seem just as long when there’s a wee gap in the middle I’m also finding that the niggle in my hip that I keep getting is easier to ignore with every time that I go out, so that’s good as well!
For the first time since I started this journey, this morning I went out running with a friend, so wasn’t wearing earphones while I was running, and (this is going to sound weird) I was actually really surprised at how my breathing sounded! With the earphones in, I assumed my breathing was really loud because I could hear it, but it was nowhere near as bad as I’d made out in my head, so that was also a nice surprise
Basically, this is just a wee (long) catch up post to say that I’m back, and hopefully will be back on track soon, and eventually on my way to graduation, albeit a lot later than I had originally anticipated when I started this!
Happy running everyone
