Putting weight on

Hi,

I'm new to running and have just completed w5 r 1. I'm enjoying the running and the programme but I wonder if anyone has started to put weight on since running? I find that I'm alot hungrier than I used to be so I know I'm eating more. Any tips would help to hold off the hunger but have the energy to run. Thanks

Drink more water, it fills you up and keeps you hydrated, or have some healthy snacks to hand.

If I go for my run in the morning I skip breakfast but take plenty of water on board until an hour or so before I go (I don't want a wee break halfway round) and then have an apple or orange and more water to keep me going until lunch

There is absolutely no justification for eating more just because you are doing C25K, nor indeed for running any distance below 10k. Hydration, as Burrows79 says, is important. If you eat good nutritious food and avoid processed crap, then you will have plenty of energy, without having to fuel up for your runs.

This is a matter of self discipline and determination, which running throws up as personal challenges, all the time. You are not putting on weight because you are running, but because you are eating more.

Run more, eat less.

You don't eat extra food until you are running beyond 10kms. You are not doing enough to warrant extra food. Sorry 😃

Make the food you do eat as healthy as it can be! It would be a good time to do a cupboard clear out 😃

Self discipline the toughest for me. I try to eat clean, but there always seems to be some sort of temptation. I can overcome it. If I keep the motivation to run, even if I can't be bothered, then I can overcome the desire to eat processed shit - even if I crave it. I feel your pain...

I agree. Water and water. I would not miss breakfast for a morning run ( I felt faint mid swim when I didn't eat for a early morning swim - not good) but it need only be something like a banana. For a later run, no extra food it needed. I am rubbish as self discipline and do use some "hypnosis" CDs, which I find helps. e.g. Paul McKenna's "Easy weight loss"
