About to go on my very first run .. Day 1

How did I get to 44 years of age all of a sudden ... and now my stomach looks like it has an actual biscuit barrell inside it .... I can actually rest my cup of tea, tv remote control, and real life biscuit tin on it all at the same time!. Come on Bainesy its time to do something about this....she says to herself ......I'll sign up for 'couch to 5 k' and will attempt to run to fight the flab, sleep better, hopefully live until I'm 101 years old and have zimmer frame races with friends, and be able to wear jeans without having the top button undone to breathe. Oh my .... Ive never run in my whole life ... use to bunk off the cross country runs at school and eat ice pops behind the hedge with my mates ... and now I'm about to put some lycra on and run down the street ... wish me luck .

Thanks for your support everyone ... well I did it , looked a bit like bambi .... legs went all over the place .... car drivers laughed at the weird woman whose face looked like a wheezing beetroot !! But I did it ... and I'm proud of myself . Is it normal to collapse on living room floor then stick your head under kitchen sink tap to cool yourself down after first ever run?

Not just normal - obligatory! My husband and I used to return from those early runs with me looking like a tomato and him looking cool as a cucumber! Not fair! Good luck! :)

Slow and steady and stop when you need to stop!

Well done you. Take each run at a time. Trust the program - it works.

Don't try and fly out of the traps, even in the early weeks, jog don't run. Go into your 60sec run as though you were starting a marathon, slow and steady, you are building stamina and endurance, speed will come much later.

Oh and take your rest days, and don't be worried about taking an extra rest day. Drink plenty of water - every day, not just run days.

You will have good runs and bad runs, just like you have good days and bad days, don't get too hung up on this, good or bad every run counts.

I'm sure there is more...

Thanks very much what's app , that's very motivating message . I'm defo having my rest day today and actually looking forward to my w1 r2 tomorrow which I'm surprised and happy about . Is there any way of recording how far I am running to monitor progress ? What week are you on ?

There are plenty of apps you can put on your phone, but I prefer to concentrate on the run and look at distance post-run. For that I use: gb.mapometer.com/

I am currently on the IC unfortunately (knee injury). However, I am hoping to start W9 this weekend.

We do wish you luck😃

. I never ran, ever, and waited til 56 to start, for which I could kick myself 😀 Once you start, hopefully you will get hooked as so many of us here have been, and running will become a way of life for you

Just go really slowly to make it easier 😃🏃‍♀️✔️

Hi Bainesy sy! Now is W1 going? I started C25K on 16th June as a total non runner of a similar age to you (40 this year!). I'm hoping to do W1 R3 on Tuesday morning - as long as its not too hot. Good luck with your run!
