I've just started using couch to 5k and am only on week 1. I was wondering if anyone has lost any weight doing it and when did you start seeing results?? Thanks!!
Losing weight?? : I've just started using couch... - Couch to 5K
Losing weight??
Hi there, it is nearly 2 years since I got off the couch now & my initial intention was to just be healthy. I have now lost 42 lbs! It was gradual & steady without a particular diet plan. In fact I eat what I want but only when I'm hungry & stop when I'm full. Too easy right? I did also join Slimming World for the first 6 months as it was good to track progress & get encouragement & support. Now, through running & cycling I am stronger fitter & back to my pre baby weight... only took me 30 years lol
Enjoy the journey
You may not necessarily lose weight as this will also depend on what you are eating/drinking calorie wise and how much 'overweight' you are, but you will start to feel more toned, you will also feel better in yourself. For myself, I have lost weight over the past few weeks (now on week 8) but that is also because I have been watching what I eat. My resting heart rate has also dropped in the past few weeks. I am trying to convince myself that I am getting toned but I have a long way to go!!
I lost a further stone once I started running. That was post C25k though cos the programme is not really going to burn that many calories. It's only when you graduate and begin to run further and longer that you start to see the scales moving. Let it be a catalyst for change though. Moving more in general, while being careful about what you eat and drink, will see you start to lose weight. It takes time but I'd well worth the effort.
Walking is cheap and easy do more of it! 😃
Love yourself.
Love Running.
Love the wind.
Love nature.
Ignore the weight loss issue... it will happen eventually.
Your body will love you more when you run.
You will feel good when you run.
Don't think - JUST DO IT
I'm on week 6 and havnt lost any weight on the scales but I feel better and appear less bloated.
Im a huge believer in not looking at the scales and going on dress sizes/how you feeling yourself.
However my best friend has a superb success story with couch to 5k.
She is a healthy eater, (all her dinners are Joe Wicks recipes) doesn't eat carb meals when not working out, eats salads for desk lunches etc but loves the beer and eats what she wants at the weekends.
She began the couch to 5k programme sometime after Christmas so Jan 17 time. After not being 100% happy with her dress size. She completed the plan by running every other day, first on a treadmill then progressed outside.
She is now running 5ks every other day and even manages the odd 10ks. She hasn't dropped anything on the scales but she has dropped 2 dress sizes and has said she has noticed a physical body change, she is beaming - Im super proud of her ! A really encouraging story i think!
I'm hoping ill get back into my size 12s myself! haha
You won't necessarily lose weight....as misswobble says..after Graduation, things start to build up
But.. it will do you so much good.. tauter, tighter and trimmer and feeling fantastic as the weeks go by. Link the programme with a healthy eating regime..( not diet) and you have a great partnership!!
Record your vital statistics now and compare them at the end of the plan. You will see and feel a difference but you may not lose weight simply because muscle weighs more than fat and you will not burn much at this stage. You will become more active and hopefully enjoy exercise, which with sensible diet will lead to weight loss in the long term. This is a change for life, not a quick fix.
Good luck.
I am very overweight. I've been c25king for 10 weeks now.( although I'm only on week 7 due to repeats.) I have lost 1lb, which is slightly disheartening until you measure inches - 2 inches lost on hips, 2 lost on waist and half on chest. Now that makes me smile. Clothes fit better and I'm succeeding my way through the challenge, getting further etc - go me! Don't worry about the scales, just enjoy it!
I am not a medical expert but the ratio for weight loss seems to be 75% diet and 25% exercise (other sources quote 80% - 20% ) so I wasn't surprised that there was no dramatic weight loss since starting C25K in February, I eat "healthily" but too much, especially at night when I get the "munchies". BUT slowly and surely, like the C25K, my weight is going down slowly and I am looking at the long term. In my case, I wasn't overweight at 77kg (sorry I am in the EU when I started the C25K but have lost nearly 4kg over several months. BTW since graduating on my 65th birthday, I am happy to run for 30 minutes three times a week and I'll let my kids run the marathons ! Good luck with week 2
