Bad Week 😣

So after managing my first 20 min run on Thursday, ever since I've been struggling to hit 15 mins πŸ˜“ I know it can't be plain sailing all the way, and this is the first time I've really hit a block in the programme, but it's thrown me a bit πŸ˜”

On a nice note though, this evening I passed a fellow runner a couple of times. The first time was at the beginning of our circuits and we just exchanged smiles, but the second time was at the end and we high-fived (too puffed to say anything πŸ˜‚). So that was nice πŸ’–

I had one of those bad runs last week and feels awful, but don't give up, we are together in this from the beginning, remember?

Glad to read this. I completed week 7 run 2 and, MAN did it burn! Leg muscles aching like mad. It just means I'm getting better - I hope.

Oh, and regarding your encounter with the other runner, how cool is that?!

Take a step back for a moment and look at the big picture. A few weeks ago would you have imagined you'd be disappointed at *only* running 15 minutes?!

Sometimes we have bad runs, for no apparent reason. Remember you're in this for the long haul, so if you want to go back to the last week you completed successfully to build up our positivity and momentum again, that's absolutely fine. :)

That's very true... not so long ago running for 5 mins seemed a big deal. Thanks for the pep talk!

I always want to high 5 people I run past more than twice! I usually opt to offer to put them on my Christmas card list after 5 πŸ˜‚

Take an extra day off and do lots of stretching and you will get past that barrier with renewed energy!

Slow down your running until you can run 20 minutes :)

Yes it was, and must have cheered you both up. Each of you knowing what it takes πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜€πŸ˜œ

Ok so you stuck a bit. No worries. You will come through. In a way, sticking a bit is a positive thing as it makes you realise you are not superwoman, and makes you question what needs to be done to get you over this mini slump. Regroup and come out stronger. Have an extra day off maybe. Rest, good healthy food day and come out fighting πŸ’ͺ

So.... a bad run. That makes you a proper runner!

You may well just have been going a tad too fast - having cracked 20 minutes on one run it is likely you just forget the right pace on the next run out, especially if you've only run the 20 minutes once so far (when you were probably consciously slowing your pace to make sure you reached the end). Your body may not have fixed the right pace into your legs yet!

Add to that a bit of fatigue / wrong weather / too much or too little food or drink. Or it could be that butterfly in the amazon flapping it's wings (or not) that's made the difference - who knows.

It doesn't matter - what does matter is that you go out again and enjoy the fact that you are going out again to see what happens next time :) Good luck for the next one!

I think you've got it in one - thinking back over Monday's run, I definitely pushed myself to go faster than I should have. I've been running with a couple of people who have been running longer than me, and I think I was beating myself with the "you should match their pace" stick. Monday night I developed some pain in my right hip and I think I've stretched the TFL flexor - nothing too bad, but I'm going to listen to everyone on here and take a few days to rest it and make sure it's back to normal before I run again...and this time I'll stick to a nice steady shuffle, like usual :D
