This is more complicated than it seems because 'shin splints' is actually a term that covers a few different ailments.

From my own personal experience, this article covers the issues that rang most true.

I get them when I walk too briskly, so I just plod along at my normal walking pace during warm-ups, walking intervals etc.

You need to know you definitely have them. Do you have a diagnosis?

No I don't have a diagnosis but having read up on it I think this may explain the pain I have.

Don't run on them they won't go away like that, and check your shoes. Best wished for a speedy recovery, they blooming hurt don't they?

Do I need to get this diagnosed? Worried if I stop I'll struggle to get running again. I definitely need to look at my footwear as I've had problems with my toe nails too.

They feel a little better today less achy and more like when I touch them they feel bruised. Thanks for your advice and well wishes. Xx

I didn't, it was quite obvious what it was - I thought it was obvious anyway. I took two weeks off, I think I got away with it quite lightly. I assume you know the drill for injuries?

Rest

Ice

Compression

Elevation

And ibuprofen, I like the gel.

Hope you feel better soon
