Not with pain !!.... but with frustration!!! although tbh there is a bit of pain in there as well.
I've been so careful - only running twice a week, increasing distance by 1/3 mile each week, starting Pilates and seeking advice from you more experienced guys and then just when you think it's going great .... BANG!!!
Ran on Saturday - 4 miles not the easiest run as its only the second time at that distance but no obvious after effects. Get up Sunday morning and general achey legs but predominantly painful shins. General muscle ache gone today but persisting pain in shins when walking
Grrrrrr!!!!! Someone please tell me it's not shin splints and it'll be gone tomorrow!!
Please ?!?!?

I suffered from alot of pain in the early days....i know this isnt what people would recommend but i use this stuff before and after a run....no side affects but i would always advise you check with a doctor before using but its so soothing not like the rubbish you get from chemists.
It is hard to say. 'Shin splints' is a generic term for a number of different ailments which affect that area.
Hopefully it will pass but RICE can never do any harm in the meantime.
The obvious question to ask is about your footwear as in. are your shoes suitable for you? But given that you have been running for a while now, that doesn't seem like they would be the problem.
Calf stretches and heel raises are good exercises for strengthening that general area.
Thanks for the help guys. My footwear should be ok I think - I was fitted properly at a running shop and I've gotten this far without problem. I've had a bit of sciatica which on reflection may have changed my gait resulting in the current problems. Shins aren't quite as painful today - been doing lower leg excercises last couple of days and Pilates last night so here's hoping 😊
Can't offer any suggestions on the shins, but I hope you feel better soon.
Also consider inserting some easy, low mileage weeks into your training. I learned the hard way that my body needs the break the first time I built up my mileage. Since adjusting my approach I've had less problems.
