Taken on too much?!?!?

I graduated C25K mid December, my friend and I are doing our first park run on Saturday. As a goal we have signed up to the winter run in early February but it's 10K. We are running now three times a week 5-6k depending on our route.

Have I bitten off more than I can chew in our naivety ??? I feel anxious about it now.

Hi Doone,

I think you will have no problems with the Winter Run in approximately 6 weeks, as long as you follow a training programme.

Look on line there are loads of sites, just key in; 10k running plan 6 weeks.

Following a programme will give you stability and a safe route to your goal.

All the best and happy running.

If you carry on running three times a week between now and then, you'll have it done and dusted with no problem. The only obstacle that can get in the way is self-doubt, so tie the damn gremlin to a chair, stick a piece of tape over its gob and read it the riot act. You can do this. GO!

I think it is definately doable. I progressed from 5 to 10k by extending one run in to my weekly long run and keeping the other two as 5k. Remember not to increase your total weekly mileage by more than 10% a week and you'll be fine. Also regular strength and flexibility work will help keep injury at bay. Good luck and ENJOY! Is it the London winter run you are doing btw?☺

Thanks Sandra and yes it is the winter run. Really excited about it but did suddenly get anxious and thought I'd taken on too much.

you can do this! Remember to build the distance slowly, perhaps extend one run a week by 1k, thereby sticking to the 'no more than 10% increase per week. ' rule. Keep running three times a week too. Look after your self - eat well, not a lot of alcohol, stretches , strengthening etc . Good luck runner!

If you can train a 7km then you can do a 10km event. So you will be ready no problem

Are you doing London? There is always a big meet up from here and th facebook C25k group. I bring rich chocolate cake for the end and we meet up for a drink.

You'll be good! It'll be a great experience, carry on as you are, gradually getting to 7k, and if you can get to 7k then you'll get to 10, good luck!😊
