Post Christmas run (burn off a few of the calories gained from cake, mince pies.....etc!)

My last two runs have been at the local gym due to unwelcome visitors, namely 'Barbara' and 'Conor'! But yesterday the wind had dropped a bit, although still blustery, the sun peeped out behind the clouds, it was dry and there was even a bit of blue sky. So I donned my gear and prepared to go out. The doggie gave me 'spaniel eyes' so I decided to take him with me but on the lead so not as much fun as he would like!

As I set off I decided to take a different route, to add a bit of distance and variety. The first part was on the pavement into the village, then across the bridge over the river and down a single track lane past traditional white cottages. The lane comes to an end and I go through a gate onto the common grazing. I slow to a walk as I negotiate the muddy, boggy and rocky ground (including cow dung - "leave it!"). I try a jog on the grassy parts and then begin to descend to the single track road that goes to the beach. The tide is out and a few people are enjoying a stroll. I run past, enjoying the view and fresh sea breeze down to the slipway where small fishing boats are launched in the summer. I pause to take this photo and then retrace my steps past the beach and up the hill back to the main road. I reflect that 'the hill' used to cause me quite a lot of concern and sometimes it defeated me but today I jogged up, slowly of course, but it reminded me how my fitness had improved (thanks to Couch25k and all you lovely people on this forum). An increase of pace on the last part, which is slightly downhill, and back home - just over 6k, what a lovely run

Yes, Madge I do feel very lucky. It is interesting how running has given me a different perspective on the landscape. I often look at places and think, 'this would be a nice place to run'!

Yes, I enjoy running on a variety of terrain, I find my knees don't like too much road work! Beautiful Northern lights too when it is clear enough!
