I've been blathering on for ages about how I wanted to see these disused chalk pits, but my recovery from a virus was holding me back. Well I got there yesterday, they are awesome! I just can't believe there is something like this just a few kilometres from the centre of Cambridge. It was such an amazing run too, past some other disused quarries that are now filled with water, and along Cherry Hinton Brook, very very pretty! Baldy drove over and met me in the pub after, bought me a nice glass of wine than drove me home, spoilt brat that I am! The sheer size of this area stunned me, you can just make out some tiny people on the right there, gives an idea to the scale of the place.
This is what I love best about running - where it can take you.

No, this is a designated nature reserve, and has beautiful paths, as well as open grass/chalk areas. I didn't find it slippy at all. I wish I lived nearer, I'd use it for intervals/speed work.
Great photo and post. Looks sunny too ! I find that always helps.
Despite running up my boring canal today it is mostly quite. But managed to run by lake and see wildlife and sun glistening on half frozen lake. Despite being cold having the sunshine on my face feels great !
Hope you have a good new year and many more glorious runs.
