Double Stamina run.

Hi folks,

I ran my fourth stamina run for the week yesterday.

As it was a Saturday I was able to run in daylight. (Yippee) I had decided to test myself so I did my five minute warmup walk down the hill to sea level. Laura told me to run so I was off. The weather was lovely, it was dry with a gentle breeze and the sea was almost flat calm. It was just after 8.30am so the sun was well and truly up, if sneakily hiding behind a large cloud. (Probably for a rest). I ran past the Christmas tree at Victoria square and then witnessed a rear end shunt at the next traffic island. (Nobody hurt only pride)

Leaving Chiswell, I continued along the causeway that joins Portland to the rest of Dorset. As I ran along the footpath, there was a Kestrel hovering over the the grass to my right, between the harbour and the road, obviously looking for it's breakfast.

The sun gave up on it's game of hide and seek and my back could instantly feel the warmth. The sun lit up Chesill bank and the pebbles that are piled 50 foot high radiated the light. Bringing a smile to my face as I headed towards the traffic island where I normally turn towards the Sailing Academy. I reached the Traffic Island but continued along the causeway heading towards the Fleet Lagoon and Ferry Bridge. I had decided to do a double stamina run. My smile grew even more at this point as my wife was driving towards me heading towards our home. Flashing lights and a wave, then she was gone. I passed Chesil Beach Centre and then ran across the bridge, this is where the Fleet Lagoon (Fresh Water) joins Portland Harbour. I ran along for another couple of hundred yards to the end of the causeway and then crossed the road. I had now done 35 minutes running.

I started my return jog towards Portland resetting my Ipod and running thru the warm up walk section. After crossing the bridge again I followed the track that leads onto the old railway track. It's great running in daylight, you can run on grass and tracks seeing any obstacles, a lot more interesting than pavements. To my left is Portland Harbour, it was flat calm, the only movement was from a boat being rowed by eight men with a cox. Normally there are between twenty to forty Wind/Kite surfers on the water. Reaching the end of the track I headed off towards the Sailing Academy and joined the path heading towards Portland Castle. The sun was still out and everywhere was bright and fresh. There were wading birds and gulls all going about their morning chores. I passed the Castle and then headed back uphill towards home. I felt the hill in my legs as I had now been running for an hour, but kept right on till I reached home. I had run for 5 miles so I was over the moon. Its great running to a beat, and the beat certainly helps as you start to tire near the end of a run.

The day got better still as I have lost another 3Lbs thats 37 Lbs i've lost in total.

I hope that you all had a good run and a great weekend, all the best.

Well done on your success so far, terrific work, you have done so well!

I notice you are increasing your running time/distance very quickly since your recent graduation. Many of the experienced runners on this forum advise against increasing by more than 10% per week so not sure if you are aware of that advice? It's great to be out there but as new runners we need to be mindful to guard against the potential for injury due to overuse particularly as we build our running legs. I'm sure you are doing so but just wanted to highlight in case. The IC is not a nice place to be.

Happy running👍🏼🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻

Thanks for your compliments and the advice. I will take it on board, as like everyone, I don't want any injuries.

All the best

What a lovely post... :) Thank you.

It all sounds pretty good, but Millsie-J is right... best to keep it a tad slower and steady in the early days after Graduation... the distance and the speed do come, but best if they come gently and injury free :)

We all have our own pace and our own levels of fitness, you are doing wonderfully, and the weight loss too, is a bonus...just take it steady and enjoy the journey...:)

Thanks for the advice and your compliments.

I will take heed and try to stay injury free.

All the best.
