Advice on where to continue from....

Last Sunday I ran Week 6 Run 1. Since then I have developed a chesty cough which, being asthmatic, is taking a while to shift.....grrrr......so I haven't been out running since then. Which is a nuisance because I was starting to enjoy getting out there after a day's teaching!

Now obviously it depends on when I get back out again, which depends on when I think I am sufficiently recovered, but where do I continue from - do I go continue from where I am or go back to the beginning of Week 6, or what?! How long without running would mean that I would have lost some of my stamina and fitness?

Any advice welcome!

Week 6 run 1 is a good one to go back to. Try it from there. In a week you are unlikely to have lost that much fitness (but you may feel it a harder run as you are still recovering from your cold). If the run feel too hard, just do it an extra couple of times unti you feel more comfortable doing it, then move on.

Let us know how you get on!

Maybe an idea to repeat the run.. it will give you confidence.

You are into the programme, and we do not lose fitness that quickly. last winter, many of us were struck with the chesty bronchiasaurus lurgy... and a few were off for a few weeks sometimes.

I am about to try a first run after five weeks on the IC with broken ribs... have been doing my cross-trainer and daily exercises.. ( gentle ones) to stay healthy..but when I head out, it will be so slowly... testing the ground!

Just make sure that cough has eased.. the above or below neck rule is a good one to follow. Then take it slow and steady :)

There has been heavy fog here nearly every day for the past week, although I don't have asthma I don't run in fog - can't be good for the airbags! Missing nearly a week may not affect you as much as you think, I'd start week six again if I were you.

Well, while feeling a lot better today, I'm still coughing up gunk this morning so wont' be going out again today. I'm hoping that once my lungs get going in the morning, they might start to clear up during the day, but who knows!!

Anyway - I've downloaded the first strength and flex podcast so will try and do that around the house this morning instead!
