Shoes recommendations please

Any recommendations for really, really, really effectively shock-absorbing shoes? Shoes for an overweight person in their fifties running on pavement.

Well that profile sounds v much like my own teehee. Im running in Brookes Adrenaline, perfect purple power! However, you should go and have a gait analysis at a proper runners shop where they will advise on the right shoe for you. What is good for me may not be right for youπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ‘ŸπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ˜€

Hi Sarahcyn,

Just by reading your name I can tell you some facts.

I'm older, fatter, balder and my voice is certainly deeper than you.

Ive just dropped below 18 stone in weight and i'm on week 6.

The running shoes I have are New Balance 860v6. They really soak up the pavement.

If I was you I would, I would certainly get a gait analysis, at a runners shop. They film you on the treadmill and can determine what type of running shoe will be best for you. I would also get your feet measured to make sure that they fit perfectly.

All the best and good luck running.

The most cushioned shoes I've heard of are called Hoka. I've not tried them myself, but many people on here love them. They come in really groovy colours too :)

Running shoes are generally grouped together and one such group is "cushioned" so you could have a look on t'interweb for a look-see.

The most cushioned ones I tried on and really liked em were Nike Vomero

The Hoka's are like platforms! Weird but some folks swear by em. Bit dear though. You could go for a half-way house. Proper running shoe shop will give you the chance to try before you buy. Once you've found a shoe that suits you then you can buy off the internet for bargains

Good luck!

Decathlon do a free gait analysis and have shoes in a range of prices.

Asics. If you go to their shops (I went to cheshire oaks discount shop) they will tell you which ones are the best for cushioning. I bought Asics Cumulus 16, but there are newer models out now. They are so springy they're great. I love them. I'd go to a shop and try them all on. I went in sports direct to try out a variety of shoes and they tried pushing the karimor ones (but then that is their own brand) and the pairs that were designed for cushioning but when I tried them on they felt rock hard, not what I was after. As I said we then went to the asics shop where they did a gait analysis (recommended by the way) and they showed me a few shoes that would be suitable.

Not what you're looking for?
