I use a Garmin Forerunner 25 and love it. It does everything I need as mostly interested in distance and pace.

Garmin Forerunner 10... simple, just enough for me :)

I have a misfit shine 1 (daily steps and sleep) and a Garmin 220. (Running, swimming, walking )

Same as Oldfloss - a Garmin Forerunner 10. Distance, pace, laps, and tells me about calories too (but it's wasted on me). If you want something more intricate then Garmin do other models that measure your heartbeat and probably give you the size of your knickers and what you've had for breakfast too.

That would be great. Especially if it would check you've got your knickers on the right way round and not inside out.

I've had my Fitbit Charge HR for nearly a year (Black Friday bargain from M&S) and it does me pretty well (easily defeated by tech) Because I am a slow runner it does have an annoying habit of declaring I've been for a walk instead (but I rely on auto-recognising activities)

Garmin forerunner 220. I like it because you can programme intervals and it vibrates as well as bleeps.

Do you want specifically an activity tracker or a running watch?

an activity tracker.

Most of the Garmins mentioned are running watches. I'm guessing you mean Fitbits and the like?

Garmin forerunner 10 for me, nice and simple, whereas hubs has a more complex garmin forerunner 235 for his serious running!

A Garmin Fenix 3 for me, looks like a normal watch, tough as nails and has all the normal smart watch functions ( apart from a touch screen ) and the battery lasts ages.

Pebble 2's are worth looking in to. Comfy and has all the bits and pieces you could want - and you can use it for swimming which is really cool :)

Ive got a garmin vivofit, just about to purchase a vivoactive hr+

I was considering the forerunners, but I wanted something a bit more generalised, my mobile can compensate if there are any advanced running features i need as I have it with me on every run.

My work also provide vitality health insurance which gives me one discounted garmin or polar a year. The vivoactive is £126 for me, rather than £210

My Fitbit Surge does me well for running, weight training , and walking . The free app allows food intake monitoring and the built in HR monitor allows you to get an estimate of calories expended . Great for I think £140 or so .

Thank you all for your input. I have seen the new tv ad for the fitbit charge 2, looks good and seems to tick all the boxes.

Thanks for this info everyone. I have been looking at the Garmin 10. The main extra thing I want is to be able to look at maps later..I have ruled activity devices out of my investigation, having tried a vivofit

I have ordered a Garmin 10 (£40 on ebay, almost new as the owner has upgraded)

The email has suggested other items I might like to buy to complement my purchase, including a sports whistle and 2x gas air horns. Presumably I would use these to tell people to get out of my way or risk having my footprints across their back as I trample them in my bid for a new personal best :)

I use a Tom Tom Spark 3 GPS watch as recommended by a marathon running friend. I love it. It tracks running, swimming, treadmill activity, heart rate, sleep, steps, cycle and more. It also comes with bluetooth headphones so no annoying wires. Find it cheaper than similar GPS watches that offer the same things. As well as seeing the data of your runs on the watch you can sync it with your phone or computer and upload your activities afterwards which shows you the map of your run, inclines, pace, calories and so on. I love it.

I use a Fitbit zip in conjunction with my iphone- it's simple and easy, and you can track runs, walks, bike rides, map runs, distance, pace and more. Second hand off eBay for about £25. I can genuinely say it has changed my life. :)
