Undulations!

I've just got back from completing Week 5 Run 1. My runs to date have been from my front door and round a nearby park, or from the front door and around a smaller park and then a small woodland. Today I fancied a change, just to mix things up a bit, so I manfully (or woman fully) got myself togged up and out the door bright and early, then drove 5 minutes to the station. Running beside the train line (not literally of course) there is a path/cycle way through wooded glades and past some fields. Although the mist was quite eery I thought I would give it a go.

Getting from the car park to the start of the pathway was the easy bit, then, as I peered through the mist I realised the path ahead rose upwards. What's one little hill, I told my emerging gremlins and managed to walk up with ease. What I hadn't realised that the whole of the pathway waves up and down! My poor little legs - but I decided to just take the upward slopes slow and steady, and then enjoy the downward slope.

To my surprise the cows in the neighbouring field took an interest in me - heaven only knows why, as I must have looked like a pink monstrosity in my lycra, emerging from the mist. As I ploughed on puffing and blowing, they greeted me with a moo. Perhaps I was actually making similar cow like noises - who knows? Then two little calves came up close to the fence between us and actually started gambling along beside me. They must have kept up with me for two minutes or so, and it was really encouraging (and they were very cute).

On the return leg, I have no idea what was around me, as the thick mist was now condensing on my glasses, and I could barely see the way ahead. Drips splashed from my hairline, and I thought that the added effort in tackling the rises and falls meant I must be breaking into a mega sweat. However, it was only the condensation from the mist in my hair.

Dripping and bedraggled and finished my walk back to the car, alongside the main road, and just prayed that I would be fairly invisible in the mist.

I'm not sure I'll be doing this route again... Although I do feel a sense of achievement now I'm back home.

Lovely post and I loved your description of the cows 😊 They are very inquisitive creatures aren't they? Haha!

Sounds a fab run. Well done.

Sounds like a lovely run. Undulations will help you get stronger, but maybe a flat route for run 3 of this week!😊

Yes, Ullyrunner, I think I will use one of my other two routes for run 2 of this week. Run 3 I am doing in a park in Manchester, and I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fairly flat as I've not been there before (visiting my daughter who's at uni there). It's been recommended by a C25K graduate so I'm hoping it's be ok.

Great story. I've heard of "Guerrillas in the mist" But never "Cows in the mist". Sure there's a Movie there or is it Movie and a book ?

Well done

I love the idea of running with cows - that's a new one! Hills are excellent training - so I'm told :-)
