Hi new to this, I'm soon turning 16 and play rugby. Last year i struggled to run anything more then 1km. I now run various distances for fitness purposes but would like to know what a good time would be for a 4.6 km run as I usually try and be quick when running that distance.
Thank you

Right, looking at my local park run stats the record held by junior male 15-17 bracket is 17:29 obviously that's for 5k though which is an amazing time. Bear in mind Mo Farah's best time for 5k is just under 13 minutes. It's hell of a speed! The more you run, the better your times will become. The fact that your running has progressed to where you are now is such an achievement - well done for that. You're doing a great job with your sports - keep at it
Charlie, we are probably not the best people to ask as most of us are older than you and have spent a considerable part of our lives abusing our bodies and have only started to run later in life and are, for the most part, just happy to be able to run at all. I applaud your application to staying fit and wish I had had your wisdom at the same age. Parkrun times will give you a guide to a fast time for 5k, but on this forum we spend our time telling people that speed is not important so long as you are getting the exercise. This article womensrunning.competitor.co... gives an interesting perspective on the relationship between running and fitness (measured in mortality) which may surprise you. I would point you in the direction of runnersworld.com for general running info but recommend parkrun.com or your local running group if you want to improve your pace and competitiveness.
