A hot week ahead...

So next week is meant to be quite a scorcher. How do you find running in the heat? I tried it a couple of times and definitely slow down as I find breathing in warm air so uncomfortable. Does anyone have any tips? I am determined to not miss a week so even if I manage just one run, it will be better than nothing!

Morning it end to go out at around 5 am but is only because I am up early the temperatures this week have made my decision for me I can only see Wednesday morning being a possible problem

Morning! I may have to switch my morning exercises for the evening in that case.

I just went out for a run and it was a little breezy, thank goodness! Will try a couple of morning runs during the working week. Thanks :)

I hate it!!! I much prefer winter running. My tips are to run v early and also in the woods.... It's much cooler 😎

Yep, definately agree about the woods, I usually head for the woods too!

Me too! I have no woods near me but will stick to routes which are not too muggy. Will ask my housemate to jog around the quays with me.

Run as early or late as possible.

Stay in the shade (cross the road if necessary or find some nice shady woods as JJ suggests).

Slow down.

Keep hydrated. For details and reasons for the last 2, see my post from a few weeks ago: healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Thank you! I found your post really useful and I will definitely slow down. Perhaps shorter and slower runs this week is better than doing one long one and really suffering.

I hate running in the heat! Much prefer the wind and rain!! Early morning will be the best time to run if you can. Also, I just slow down and make sure I am properly hydrated (drink well the day before too). Good luck!🙂

Definitely run as early as possible -before 6am. If you can't, then freeze a damp flannel the night before and take it with you. As it melts you can wipe your forehead, neck and wrists with it.

I love a cool flannel. I wonder if soaking your t-shirt and then wringing it out before running will help?! I remember having to squeeze bottled water down the back of my top during the last 10k race I did to stay cool and that felt like bliss.

Ooh, I might have to try this. I really don't like running when it's too hot - and not just cos I won't take my four-legged companion with me when it's like it was yesterday! I'd never thought of soaking my top first...

What part of the country are you in ? Just wondering where the good weather is ? It's defiantly not dropped in on MANCHESTER for quite a while

If it's hot I either run early in the morning or late evening , I defiantly do not run in the day time heat .( usually this is just a holiday problem for me :-). )

There's some really good tips here! I also run in the early morning, out before 6am. Can't manage that at the weekends so if it's really hot I don't get a long run on Sat or Sun 😪. I think 23C is about my limit and it also depends on the humidity. I think I'm the only person at work who rejoices when the weather-forecast is "bad"!

Oh, I love a bad weather forecast too! Bet lots of runners do!😀

Hi, as all the others, as early as possible, the world is a beautiful place before 6am in the morning on a summers day, I prefer about 6 degrees with a bit of light rain 😄 Never thought I'd say that, being a sun worshipper - when I don't have to move!

Although I have done a race in the middle of the day - see post 'warm and toasty in Cambridge' did boost my confidence though, I was very scared of the heat before that - being a 'fainter' when I was younger.

Humidity kills me to, really mucks up my breathing, if the air/breeze is cool, I'm fine, but my turbo doesn't work on warm air,! 😁, oh and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate....., I'm testing fuel belts with two small bottles at the moment - no water stations in the countryside.......😉

Happy running 😄
