Too many hills for me...😩

Well, with my first 10k trail event planned for next weekend, we decided to head over to the  area to check out the course this afternoon. I was prepared for 'undulating' and I was prepared for a couple of 'hills' but not for a course, that to me, seemed to consist of nothing other than hills!!😩😩 With the exception of the first half a km or so, the route is entirely hilly and, hand on heart, far too physically challenging for this 51year old mud loving trail newbie! Even my husband, who is normally very much of the 'you'll be fine' type of support, puffed out his cheeks a lot as we slogged up and down (and that's just walking) before agreeing with me that I might not be ready for such a run!😔 I so wanted to do a trail run folks, but this one is just not to be - not if I want to remain injury free for the Bristol 10k which I am running with my sister two weeks later. So, with heavy heart and reminding myself that 'discretion is the better part of valour', I will not be running next weekend but shall set my sights on finding a trail run more suited to my beginner status!  I have included hills in my  training  - but there's 'hills' and then there's 'LOTS of hills' and I just don't want to die out there yet!😮😉.

On a more positive note, I did have a fab 11k trail run yesterday (threw in a couple of hills too), so maybe next year I will be ready for a bigger challenge!🙂

Happy running this weekend!

Aww.  Sorry to hear that Sandra. Could you run-walk it just for fun to avoid injury?  It's hard when you have another event so close to this one.  Sounds like a tough route.  Good for you for giving it a go.

if it wasn't for your next run I would say just give it a go ,but I think you are right to save yourself for Bristol! Good luck with it!

Think you're very wise Sandra. Much better to be disappointed than injured! A big part of becoming a runner is learning when to push and when to back off. Good, if sad, call.

One thing this programme teaches us is to know our own bodies. It's a shame but  these things have to be fun too and you don't want to pick up an injury before Bristol. I think 10k is pretty impressive anyway without horrible hills!

It is accepted form at hilly trail runs to walk all the uphills.

I think the phrase 'choose you battles' is a good one for this instance. You aren't saying no, just not yet.
