I hope everyone is is doing ok and those who are still on the IC couch are making progress.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run.

Not a running sort of week unless you count my sinus. I was so down last week when I posted and usually when I'm am that down it means something is wrong, so on Tuesday my husband suggested I had a little word with my doc Incase my thyroid meds were out. We had a little talk and she had a look up my nose and told me I had a chronic sinus infection and needed antibiotics. So I finish them today and am feeling so much more chipper. My sinus are still playing up but at least I don't feel like I'm ill anymore. I think that's the time of year. I had a thyroid test and my levels are good so the 4.6lb I lost is mine to be pleased with. The thing I have had to come to terms with is I am not very good at acknowledging when I'm ill, I have a trooper sort of mentality and plod on regardless, I think that's fine in most things but I think I have to be a bit more careful when I'm doing longer runs and pushing myself through, I don't think it's the wisest, I am lucky that my other half can tell and maybe I should listen more to him, he told me to ease up a couple of weeks ago and I ignored him, shame on me.
Aww hopefully you're on the mend RFC. I find sometimes when life is stressful (as yours certainly is now), sometimes we push ourselves hard, mentally and physically, because that's how we cope. Takes our mind off the stressful things. At the same time it wears us down. Hopefully you can find some time dedicated to relaxing and destressing.
Also on track, running every other day. Did stepping stones last Monday, Speed on Wednesday (first time - I quite liked it), a good solid 5k on Friday without any tech (except run keeper in my pocket) and a longer run of 6k yesterday. Still slow, but hoping the mileage and jumping around will build up my stamina and ultimately make me faster.
Last week was good. Managed to stick to my HM training plan and do 3 7k runs. But on Friday I started feeling a bit hot and cold, and on Saturday it was apparent I had a cold. Spending most of the day outside helping with a children's activity for our church did not help, so I cancelled my plan to run 10 on Sunday (a bit down about this) and had a long lie and an early night instead. Working from home today as still feeling rough. Hoping to get back out there later in the week, but I've learned from experience that pushing myself too hard when I'm ill never ends well.
Thrilled to bits to be able to report one Quest goal ticked off. I got back on the bike, getting on for two years since the last time. That was a one off for that year too - inspired by Dozzer's Discombobulated Triathlon. This had better not be a one off!
Anyway, I departed on vain (though pleasant as sunny) children's water vole hunt with instructions to beloved to sort everything out so we could ride in the afternoon. And off we went, on the not-anything-like-completed-yet new cycle path in these parts (if you half build it, they will come), doing about 12km round trip (forgot to set up Runkeeper so not sure, but find it eerie my Purple Friend knew I was on a bike) Only used the electric assist near the end going through a muddy diversion where the path construction has paused, presumably while they work out how to get across some swamp that might have Yoda in it somewhere.
This still left me with neglected dog. After all that activity I chickened out of a run only to go for a walk which was probably twice as energetic as my run would have been...
So, at the Quest draws on towards its conclusion, I am aiming for my swim this week and my 7k+ run next week.
I got half way through an online yoga class on the subject of non-violence (to self) before realising this was quite violent for me (my sun salutations are more of a feeble wave) and I'd had enough, and I did several meditation classes and every one, without exception, was interrupted by Number 1 son wafting in for a break from holiday A level revision.
It remains to be seen whether I hit my weight goal but my new settings on Fitbit are helping.
Sorry to hear of your latest challenge RFC, but glad you are making progress on what I think you called the tummy duvet (or something like that!).
I haven't posted a lot recently because I have been very busy, but have managed to keep my exercise regime fairly well together. I haven't added any distance as I think I am gradually accepting that when I run more than 5K, the real benefit is stamina so that I am better at the 5ks. Had a couple of PBs on parkrun recently, and perhaps more importantly, have very little variability in my finishing times. Am also keeping up the swimming where I think I see more evidence of progress than I do in the running.
Glad to hear youre feeling a bit better RFC, and thank you for putting this up as always xxx
Well, I had a none running week last week ! Eeek ! I was really busy and stressed at work and came home each night absolutely drained and exhausted . Have been suffering with hot flushes that have made my week a flippin' misery - Pah ! . I have been feeling rattier than the rattiest person in Rattysville tbh !
I did do some training with weights though on the plus side and I lost a further 1.1/2 lbs at Slimming club which has now taken me below my target weight . Im still trying to find the balance in maintaining my target weight and sustaining it rather than losing more , so have been adding good extras this week in a small amount of nuts and good fats .
I marshalled at the Manchester Marathon yesterday and it was amazing ! Massive respect to anyone who competes in these, you have my undying admiration always
Been out tonight for a 30 minute run and going to continue with my weights this week.
Good Luck fellow questers and a lovely bowl of chicken soup to all those on the IC. Another day closer to recovery xxx
PP if you lived in our ice box of a gaff you would welcome those hot flushes! I view them as a little central heating system. Just call me ReadyBrek. Actually, while writing, just realised have not had a single one since cutting out all sugar apart from 1 piece of fruit a day - probably coincidence though.
Mornin' Slookie ! I have started to think of them as " Power Surges " Ha ha !
I get them a LOT , outdoors, indoors , morning, noon and night. Funnily enough, I have cut back on sugar drastically but to no avail. Ah well, it is official - I am Hot Stuff - Yeah Baby ! xxx
Before I left my job they were taking photographs for the intranet and the nice man appeared with his camera right at my reddest, flushiest moment. There I am/was immortalised on the company site as a raddish.
Continuing my prep for the Great Edinbugh 10 mile run on Sunday. Start of tapering so did a 6k and a 5k run then 10k - which was part of the actual route. Edinburgh is a hilly city so there are a lot of hills to contend with throughout the 10 miles. Luckily it is also a beautiful city so to be running through the city centre and queens park is a huge incentive. Quiet week this - got to conserve my energy for the big event. Have yoga tonight but will give the 1.5 hour session on saturday a miss as I often have aching legs after that one
Glad you are feeling better RfC and happy questing everyone!
I'm continuing my prep for the Chatsworth 10k but have frightened myself silly by looking on their website, which starts off, 'Not for the fainthearted...' But I am! And weak-bladdered, and jelly-legged! I've run 3 times this week, with two 7.5k runs and a 5.3k run, and one of those was my 4th runniversary So it has been a good week, but looking ahead, it's all starting to get a bit grim.
Happy Questing, everyone, and a swift recovery to those on the IC.
I hope this helps to know but my first ( and only) race so far was a high trail 10k in the Scottish Borders. I was very anxious before it because it has huge inclines and elevations but me and everyone else I know who did it loved it. Loads and loads of people were walking up the hills, fast but still walking, and ran all the rest. Times weren't much slower and it meant we all had energy at the end. Good luck x
Thank you for that! I've just had a complete nightmare of a run which hasn't helped, but I reckon I could actually walk 10k in 2 hours, which is the cut-off, so I will do it! Your race sounds great - well done
I think it really helps if I think that I could walk it. I have the 10 miler coming up on Sunday but I am talking myself into thinking it will be fine because I know I can walk 10miles no problem so if the worst comes to the worst I'll still get round 😏
Happy Runniversary AM! You is an very brave runner - congratulations for biting the plunge/taking the bullet and giving it a go at Chatsworth - will be cheering you on from the safety and comfort of my little no-hill 5k loop!
Thank you, Slookie - I may have to walk up the hills because they are fierce, and I've been on the IC this week with a chest infection but I'm hoping the steroids will kick in fast enough to let me run most of it Then I'll be back to nice flat 5ks too
I'm happy to report that I'm mostly off the couch. I ran three times last week, but very little (2k, 3k, 4k). The bad news is that I really did pull/strain something, I can still feel it about 2k in to a run. The good news is that running doesn't make it worse, so long as I stretch like crazy and really focus on my form. When I get lazy and slouchy, I feel it. When I stand tall, I don't.
So. For this week, three runs again, with a goal of a "long" run of 5k on the last.
