You might want to consider upping the quantity. I take 2000mg 3 times a day now and it has had a marked effect on my joint health. I used to take one a day of regular 300mg but have since discovered tha at those levels it really isnt having much effect.
You do also need to get the high dosage caps - when I first started upping the dose it came out at some ridiculous number of caps - 24 a day or something, which was pretty challenging simply in sheer volume, let alone the 'fishy burp' factor of most brands. Luckily I have since found a brand that has no fishiness about it, just a neutral to slightly citrus taste. And only 1 cap a time.
I do quite a lot of squatting with weights and my elderly knees were really protesting about it but are generally pretty smooth and happy now.
