Am on week 6 of couch to 5k and have had a week of nasty cold not able to get out.. should I continue from where I left off or go back to an easier week when I'm better? Feeling really disappointed with myself as never run before and am 57 and just started and was really enjoying it! Any advice would be gratefully received x

After a week, you shouldn't have lost much progress. The best thing to do after illness is to start with a gentle 'test' run- maybe a week 5 run, but maybe just a 10/15 min gentle jog or something, whatevers comfortable- and if that is hard, do week 5 again, and if it felt fine then move straight back to week 6 again?

Basically don't push yourself back in too hard when you've been ill, but really in a week you won't have lost much progress!

As it's week 6 (one of the transition weeks) and you've only had a week off I would be tempted to just give week 6 run 1 a try. Just take it nice and slowly. If you find it too hard, then drop back to the start of week 5 for your next run. I suspect that you'll be fine, though.

Slow and steady and maybe just a gentle run first, trying yourself out :) then back on Week 6 again.. don't force anything and make yourself ill..

Yup try week 6 slow you should be fine, whatever you do make sure you go. I dread to think how many times that kind of interruption has stopped my fitness programme over the years.

Yes that is what worries me Paul. Have already had 2 setbacks due to ill health so feeling frustrated with it. Definitely will continue as soon as feeling well again :)

Hi Reet, yep I think you should go for a slow test run too , just to see how you feel .

Glad youre feeling better , I had a streaming cold the end of November , what a flippin' mare that was to shift :-)

Let us know how you go on ! xxx
