Should look at my feet more often!

The photo shows the outside front edge of my current running shoes. Yowsers!

I'm a forefoot runner so I expected more wear to occur there but not quite so much: I've had them just over a year, running around three miles a week.

I'll be keeping a much closer eye on the amount of wear in future...

Well that sorts out the pronation question.

I've not thought much about that, rignold. What's my pronation?

pronation/supination is whether your foot rolls to the outside or to the inside as you move from landing to supporting on it. It's what gait analysis is generally to assess. I you have this much wear on the outer edge it would suggest you are a moderate to heavy pronator. When you get your new shoes, go and have this checked out at a running store. It is a free service and they will be able to advise you on the best type of shoe to complement your style.
