1x 50, 3 x 100 and a Rhino......

Hi all, thought I'd share my experience of a fab park run today. We had one person reaching their 50th run, three people reaching their 100th , ladies in tutu's and fairy wings, and some random bloke in a Rhino suit............

Jim Mowatt is running his first marathon at London 2016 and has chosen to do it wearing this fetching get up.

He is local and came to Cambridge park run for his first outing in the suit, brave man!

You can find out more about Jim here:

I love park run, always such a good atmosphere, I also got a PB, and I beat the Rhino! , well it was his first outing, and you can see how little his legs are πŸ˜„. Not that I'm quick, I'm still chasing down 35 mins but getting there slowly.

I'll take beating a Rhino as an improvement on overtaking a giant whoopee cushion. (That's another story)

Oh and of course there was cake.........

Fantastic day, happy running all

Mx

Great picture Madge. How many runners can say they're faster than a rhino, I wonder? ;)

Thanks AM, well Jim minus the suit has a PB of about 25 mins at park run, if he continues to use park run as a practice I think he might catch me , I don't think I could outrun a real one, I'd have to rely on its shortsightedness to not be able to see me and get bored πŸ˜„

Amazing on all counts !

Thanks poppy, weather not too bad here this morning, getting a bit wild and woolley now though! That suit weighs 16kg apparently, I cannot imagine the pain of wearing it for 26 plus miles. 😩

Love, love, love park run, PB or not πŸ˜ƒ

Well done on the PB Madge. Lovely photo and it all sounds a fab day. I have huge respect for anyone who runs in these kinds of outfits. How hard is that? How do they breathe? Thanks for posting.

Thanks IP, yes, I got annoyed with my iPod lead, and then the 'bumbag' rode up, which was irritating, I've also been out and got so hot I felt like stripping off! (Not totally but down to the crop top sports bra - you know what I mean) so no, I could not tolerate anything like that and am with you on the respect for others who wear those outfits, his whole movement was restricted. Brave man indeed!

Great stuff Madge, congrats on your PB!

When is the Parkrun birthday? That must be around now, or was this it? I'll join you again soon, not very well at the moment...

Hi Curly, sorry to hear you're not well, hope you're better soon.

The actual birthday is the end of January, it's also nearing the 300th run, not sure if they'll do anything about that.

There were actually more 50th runs yesterday, but not everyone announces it! when I looked at the results table, I think there were about four altogether.

Take care of yourself.

Thanks Madge, it's just a cold but a rotten one.. please keep me informed of important dates. I miss my running! Nearly two weeks off already, my shoes are champing at the bit, poor things, they just don't understand! I'm hoping the rest will do me good and give me a PB when I get back out there.

BTW I saw your rhino in the Cambridge Evening news!

Well done! Strangely enough, I am a friend of Jim Mowatt's, due to us both being science fiction fans and attending conventions. I will probably be helping him raise sponsorship at the Annual British SF Convention at Easter in Manchester.

I am also impressed by this running in a bizarre costume. A mutual friend of our's some years back ran the London Marathon for an Orangutan charity, and she ran in an orangutan outfit - adding nice warm fur to the equation - insane!

Love the photo.

Ah, that'll be 'the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy' connection, I take it, fantastic, I do hope Jim does well, the little bit of 'shuffling' I do, has given me great respect for those that do longer and quicker distances, let alone adding some weird outfit!

And as for fur, just no!
