The reason for the name is reading the last few weeks of posts and there seem to be some of us struggling. The whole point of the Quest is to help motivate not to make you feel bad. So if your finding that you've stretched yourself a bit on your aims bring them down for this quest just to help you get back On Your feet. I always think things are easier when you feel you are doing well rather than the other way round. I know you all will be doing something every week and if you don't you have very good reason, you are some of the most motivated people I know. Happy Questing.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing London to Paris

I'm still plugging away post injury trying to build my running legs up. Doing a few more minutes each week, gradually adding more weekly miles. Working on my core fitness too by doing some exercises at home, and still doing physio four times a day.
Got a 10k race pencilled in for early December which is giving me a training focus
Recovery week for me and some decisions that gave been made. I loved my event last weekend and want to do many more 10km events but I think that's my running limit. Looking over my stats the heart rate was high for the full run and it's left me a bit wiped out. I have made the decision that anything up to 10km is a running event and anything over will be speed walking, the thing that was highlighted in my 10km event was my speed walking muscles havent been well trained so I will keep my 2runs a week and add in speed walking to train for my HM.
Last week I ran behind a woman who did a 10km in about 1:10-15 (I lost her in front of me for the final 2km). And she walked the whole thing at about 7.5min /km. I can't do that but I think I can walk a HM same time as I ran it last year. My running will be my cross training so it is needed to build and keep muscle.
That sounds like a good plan, I think it is wise to limit distance! After I graduated this summer, I was so wiped out, and had to face up to the fact that I don't have the same stamina I did when I last was a regular exerciser (six years ago).
Then I embraced run/walking, and it has made all the difference. Sometimes I run with no breaks, and sometimes with a number of breaks, but somehow my distance doesn't suffer when I do. Plus I finish in great shape.
A pat on the back it was... a reminder that I really will get out and run at least once a week and don't have to force it. As I set out in the car with the dog I was still thinking there were 1001 reasons this would not be a run... it was only when I stripped off and started the warm up walk that I knew for certain I'd be running (or I'd be cold!) It was an enjoyable run, been a while since I went to that spot, the dog was joyful and I really felt I was running fast and working my body so I was very surprised by the slow pace recorded.
There was one day I was all set for a run but I visited my Mum first and felt that she was enjoying having me to herself for a change and so stayed longer.
My son starts school on Wednesday so I am hopeful that my swimming goal will be met very soon after that.
Hope your son going to new school will make things little easier for you Google me. Bet your mum appreciated your visit. It's all a bit of a juggling act when you have children and older parents. Think it's all about grabbing opportunity to run when you can.
A good week running wise but as I was away I didn't get any Pilates or gym work done so lots to do this week!
Ran 2 x 5K's and my long run extended to 15K. A great run and no niggles from my right side so the exercises are working. But I suffered with a painful calf and ankle on my left side! Honestly, you get one thing sorted and another thing starts complaining!
But I rested for two days and iced it and it was fine yesterday for a 5K.
I'm cutting back on my mileage this week so no biggie long run to do but we're having family stay and it's always a challenge to get out.
Have a safe non-slippy running week fellow questers.
Steadily working on my goals of 2 x 5ks plus one slightly longer run each week. Also want to improve my 5K speed. Have now done a couple of 6K runs which went well. 5Ks feeling more comfortable and my speed has increased, although this is just a by-product of getting a little stronger I think. Managed a time of 31:21 this morning, so pleased with that as I seem to find the morning runs tougher for some reason?
Have been trying to work on speed a bit and think I saw a little progress yesterday. Yesterday did a 10 k race - twice round Arthur seat so bit of a hill twice. Struggled on way up so ran / walked it but on way down actually went my fastest times ever. So really pleased with overall average time for race. This morning had to run 2 miles home from dropping grandson at school and really really struggled to get legs working at all. No pain but they just weren't up for running much faster than walk pace! Reminder why I don't / can't run 2 days in a row.
I am finding it difficult to keep my usual 3 runs per week habit and the longer weekend run in particular has suffered. I don't think I did an update last week, so will try and remember the last two here. Week before last culminated in my Mum arriving from Germany on the Friday and a wedding on the Saturday, so before that I managed a 10k plus a morning run to work (5.35k) and a short speed session before getting ready for the wedding - total approx 18.4k. Last week I had time off to spend with my Mum and two long work meetings on the other days. I squeezed in a 13k on tuesday and did a quick outing to the woods yesterday morning - total 19.6k. The runs themselves were all fine
Time is still an issue....My best running days are usually Tuesday and Thursday plus weekend, but this week I have a meeting on Tuesday evening and a quiz at school on thursday...So I am planning on taking my running kit with me and do a canal run at lunch time tomorrow. Sounds better than running to work in the morning, as I'd have to take a bigger backpack to allow for warmer clothes and coat.
I am due to do a trail 6 mile run on Sunday morning (Suicide 6!), so won't manage a long run this weekend and the following weekend I was planning to go to a night run at a National trust property near Stroud (I think it's meant to be 7k), so again probably not a weekend for a really long run...Still as long as I manage to keep weekly distance at a reasonable level I guess I am not drifting too much off course of my (very flexible) half marathon plan. I am determined to get back to 15-18k before the year is out!
Hi Everyone, I'm surprised to report I was able to run three times last week (5k, 5k, 6k), and I took two 2.5k walks.
Unfortunately, it snowed last night in Berlin. Only briefly, but the weather has turned very cold. This is the week I've been dreading - I may just find out I'm a fair weather runner.
This week I'm aiming for 3 runs, two long walks and one of those crazy crosstrain videos. Started today with a 2.5k walk. Wish me luck tomorrow - I'm not properly kitted out, and have no time/money to sort it out!
Good luck to you all - these are cold/dark/busy days. Forza!
I had to have a week off trapped nerve in my back caused a pain in my leg ouch did get back to running yesterday with a 5k in the cold, So now I have done cold, rain and wind just not all together, think I will pass on that combo though. I have also joined a gym so on the worst days at least I can use the treadmill or cross train ! Have already tried the treadmill but far prefer outside unless the weather is really rubbish treadmills are so boring !
Only 2 runs for me last week, but I'm progressing nicely with Bazza's push up challenge. It makes a change to have tired arms and shoulders rather than tired legs. Loving my running at the moment
Got in a mid week 5k despite the storms using the technique of planting a car at the end of the run so I never had to run head into the wind. also managed a shorter treadmill run at the weekend in the cold. The swimming continues to go well and I was delighted to hear that the gym instructor who has been running my swimfit class is going to train as a swim instructor, having been inspired by coaching us to improve our technique.
Two runs last week, hooray, doubling my goal One was even running tourism again, along Swansea's lovely beach which was fab.
This week will be interesting as I am away again. The plan is to run three times - once in a London graveyard, once on my favourite Thames run from the Millennium Bridge past the Tower of London, over Tower Bridge and back along the South Bank, and the third in Holland Park. Hopefully we will accomplish all three but I don't think my companions are as keen as I am. If necessary I will steel myself and crisscross London on my own, in neon lycra, to run solo. Watch out for me!
My swimming has not happened. My upper body programme has not happened because my shoulder has been clunking 'orribly.
I've discovered that the cold, damp and snow really put me off going out
Happy running everyone, and a swift recovery to those on the IC.
