The reason for the name is reading the last few weeks of posts and there seem to be some of us struggling. The whole point of the Quest is to help motivate not to make you feel bad. So if your finding that you've stretched yourself a bit on your aims bring them down for this quest just to help you get back On Your feet. I always think things are easier when you feel you are doing well rather than the other way round. I know you all will be doing something every week and if you don't you have very good reason, you are some of the most motivated people I know. Happy Questing.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing London to Paris

A non running week for me last week a few walks but quite honestly I didn't feel like it. First time in over 2.5 years. One of my best mates passed away Last Saturday and the week has just been hard to get through. We have her funeral this week and I plan to run sometime as I know it will help me cope. I hope everyone's week is going well. Rfc X.
Aaaaah. The running will be there for you when you are ready. Is it the faff of getting ready - sounds like getting outside is working for you. With all this rain no-one is going to know if you are having a good cry out there.
So sorry to hear about your friend. You will know when it's right to be out running again, and I am sure it will help in the process to have some outlet and space for yourself.
Sorry to hear the very sad news about your friend Rfc. I bet your mind will be all over the place. If you feel like a run go for it and if you don't that's fine too. Hope the funeral goes well - you know what I mean. Take care.
Sorry to hear about this Curly xxxx Its a flippin ' horrible bug isn't it ? I know loads of people who have it/have had it . The worse thing is the cough, I still have a bit of a lingering cough after the bout I had the other week .
A really good week, despite the busy-ness of Christmas preparation and my younger son's first full week back in education (and thus school run) Oh and a birthday too.
I ran three times which I've not done in ages. On my birthday I treated myself (yes, really) to a foggy 30 minutes. Then I was given a Fitbit HR. The following day I went for a swim and this is where these Quests really come into their own. My goal was to get back to swimming a kilometre. The previous week I'd decided to stop at three quarters but today felt as though it should be the day and the pool was lovely and peaceful... but I found my goggles case empty! Aaarrrgghhh! Had it not been for the Quest I would not have been determined enough to stay in for the full distance. I can't say it was pleasant... although I didn't end up with red eyes and now I am looking forward to doing it again *with* goggles.
A day off and then, at long last, a morning of sunshine and the Edges were calling me so off I went for a breezy 30 minutes and fabulous views. And then Sunday was the day of the Runkeeper Global 5k so I felt obliged to give it a go and had something on in the afternoon so had to get on with it. I accidentally paused the app for about 10 minutes at the beginning but had to ensure I was tracking the whole 5k so I was out running a pretty long time as I was slow (just because I was and the terrain was soggy)
Pleased with my 3 runs last week. Tuesday I did a quick outing with Speed and Thursday a steady 5k listening to music. Saturday was my first daylight run in ages and I really enjoyed doing 10k along the river. Really set me up for the rest of the weekend.
Am off work today and the sun is shining, so am going to put down my keyboard in a minute and get out there for a while. Think I might give the 30-20-10 thing a go in the park !
I have not posted in a little while, so much going on at the moment, work and life is SSSSSSSOOOOOOOOO stressful. Hubby made redundant very suddenly with no notice what so ever and no wages and mother in law staying/paying us a brief visit.
I am very thankful for my running (lol) at the moment, I try and go to running group on a Monday evening (still in 2 mile group, with the hills they do that is quite enough), I then try and get out for 2 X 5K or 1 5K and X 1 hill work around where I live (hilly). Saturday just gone was nice and dry so for the first time in weeks I went down the canal and ran in daylight.
RFC deepest condolence and to all on the IC a virtual hug.
Sorry to hear about hubby's job. Must have been such a shock especially at this time of the year. Glad your running is helping you at this time. Not sure what to say about mother- in -law visit !
After a week of reduced mileage I was back to my plan this week and so ran a total of 27K made up of 1x7K, 1x16K and a 4K hill session. I also got to the gym once for weights and rowing. I can feel my fitness improving big time as I could have kept going after the 16K and whereas last time I managed 6 hills, this week I conquered 8 of the little bu**ers!
All is good on the niggles and the ankle is behaving.
Have a great week fellow questers and to those on the IC, keep the faith!
I've not run for just over two weeks due to virus which then turned into a cold. I did manage yoga last week though, just kept it gentle. However, felt well enough today to go out for a wee jog to test myself. Felt a bit puffed but legs were fine. Was pleased that I took it easy and didn't push myself on too much. Managed 27.5 minutes, so my goal this week is to go out another couple of times but continue to take it easy. Next week I'll get back into challenging mode but for now I'll just run.
Morning all. Sorry to hear your bad news RFC. Try and get out for a run. You'll feel so much better. It will give you time to think. Know it sounds daft but you could have a "chat" with your friend. It could be your place to find her, if you know what I mean. I find my dear departed ma when I'm on the plot. She got what it meant to have a plot so we are kindred spirits there. You get my drift don't you
Anyway, I am back to running now. Not firing on all cylinders just yet but have been training regularly and have my first race for aeons this Sunday. "A 10k with PB potential". Ooooh eck
Only two runs for me due to lack of time. 6k along the canal during lunch break (sooo grateful we have showers ) and 7.4k night run at Woodchester Park ( a very hilly woodland owned by the National Trust ). An interesting experience with headlamp and a small hand held torch. Mud inside my trail shoes for the second time in 7 days
A few days rest due to achy left calf paid off, as the next two runs were great! Have begun to extend one run a week and subsequently ran 6.5k on Sunday. A couple of days off now and then it will be a couple of 5Ks before trying to extend again next weekend. Still have hopes of a 10k in the spring, fingers crossed!
Sorry for your loss. You'll feel it in your heart when you're ready to get out there again.
Missed the quest start, then never saw a weekly update. Work has been getting in the way, but now nothing in the diary till the end of December.
A quick look at the last 4 weeks gives mixed results. 8 runs in total, nothing particularly special, but plodding on. Got to run a parkrun on Saturday in the wind, 30.28, so not too bad.
Barcode scanning at parkrun on Saturday then a Santa Run on Sunday.
I'm sorry for your loss RFC. Don't beat yourself up for not running. Sometimes reflection and comfort comes with gentle walks. Sometimes with a fast run. Do what feels right.
I barely squeaked by with my two runs last week. The weather is beautiful here and the paths are clear. But this jet-lag is still affecting me very badly and I have no energy. I'll try for a mid-week run which will be tough after work on one the following weekend. After that I hope to get back to 3 runs per week.
Sad times RFC. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope it isn't too long until you can remember the good times with your friend without being overwhelmed by the sadness of their loss.
I managed 3runs last week -first time for ages. Going to try do the same this coming week xx
Felt bit more positive this week re running. Had good run with Jogscotland group on Wed, slowish for them but fastish for me. Lovely trail run on Sun with 3 others from group. Nice pace, lots of mud and water, frequent breaks to admire view and rainbow and ended up in cafe with coffee and scone - what's not to love. Run home from school run this morning felt good but quite slow. Would love to say I'm back on healthy eating but I'm not ! But not stressing about this week so taking that as a positive. Have a good week everyone.
Reading all of the posts, it seems this quest is aptly named. Pats on the back to everyone.
I was able to run three times last week in spite of busy thesis preparation, one viral child and another with a piece of glitter in her eye that required doctoring. 7k (first time!), 5k, 5k (35:45 PB). It was a good week, but I feel like I'm not doing enough strength training, and that I have just enough of a base to lose in the cold months that are coming :(.
This week: three runs, some strength training. Strength training. Do it Parseraisin! Don't be a lazy Jane!
I'm not in the quest- thought it was quite late to join- but maybe I should to keep up the graduate motivation. Really trying to do my 3 runs a week, afresh from shin splint healing last week. Sunday I ran 5k and today 4.2k in my half hour run which is a pb for me! Honestly my quest is to keep my consistency and calf strengthening without hurting my shins again. So here's to regular runs also sorry to here people's bad news, I have had some really horrible news in the last two weeks but I have to say running does coping a lot of good
DNS last week Failed dismally to summon up any motivation whatsoever, I'm afraid, just ate instead. I have already managed one run this week though so things will hopefully improve.
