Gutted ..... been getting headaches for the last week or so and my 'controlled' blood pressure is up quite high so they suggested I stop running at the moment to see if it is that causing the high BP, they don't think it should be but want to rule it out
Should have graduated next week too :((
I started this programme to help my blood pressure too

Best to find out what is causing it as there may be something undiagnosed, would hope running would bring it down I the long term. Can u still do any other exercise, like walking?
I always did do lots of walking before I started the running, usually somewhere between 2 and 6 mile a time and quite fast so am going to keep up with that. Leave running a few days, meanwhile taking my bp to see how it goes, if it's stable then I will try a run and take it again an hour after the run see how it is
Oh I'm sorry to hear that Jan, you must be gutted. Better to be safe though. I hope they rule running out as the root of your problems and you can get back out there soon enough. I'm on a break from running at the moment, so I can understand how frustrated you must feel.
Hope u get it sorted... Like you I started partly to help my blood pressure. Maybe docs can sort your Meds and get you back in your running shoes. Good luck!
It would seem rather odd for running to cause an overall increase in blood pressure. What they might be concerned about is a high baseline plus the effect of exercise increasing it still further *during* that exercise. It might be useful to clarify with them (it's not unheard of for HPs to inadvertently mislead people because they are being woolly for fear of worrying them) Given the usual benefits of exercise for people with high blood pressure, as you've said, you do not want to be without them unnecessarily, but you do need to stay safe. It's great if you can monitor your own BP.
You could think about doing some gentle strength and flexibility work which will support your running when you get back to it and help maintain the habit.
That's I would say to be honest, but I think she (the nurse at BP clinic) was just being careful as I was a little worried about the headaches and the high BP and nothing else in my life at the mo had changed only the running, to cause a change in my BP as on medication and been stable for three years.
I am seeing my Doc next week to clarify with him that it is ok to carry on. Going to try a run on Saturday to see how it goes
Got the bug now and don't want to stop running ....!!
Since losing weight and running my BP is lowest it's ever been. I do suffer frequent headaches but they never affect my BP fingers X you get a diagnosis quickly
