I agree. Whilst i do read Trail Runner and OCR magazine, pretty much all running mags are just advertorial to sell product. Someone gave me a Runners World subscription last year as a present and I was surprisd to the extent that it would give totally contradictory advice in feature articles from month to month depending on where the ad money was coming from.
Men's Running and Women's Running magazines I understand even less. Running is running. There is precious little difference between how it works by gender, even at elite levels. The only difference is, oh yes, that's right, the clothing, which is supplied by the manufacturers paying for teh advertising that funds those magazines. Silly me.
As Richard said, there is nothng in the mags that is not on the net. Or invest in a few of the many excellent books on runners and running that are out there if you want to study more specifically.
I guessed as much! Ive had the same experience over the years with some other mags.. but there are some mags that I know of that offer over and above stuff found on the internet, with good reports.
thought there may be a favorite, may give trail runner a look, thanks JJ...
I've also been wondering whether to get a magazine. I've just subscribed to the digital format of "running fitness" - £15 for 13 issues a year. As others have said, there is loads on the internet, but I thought this was worth a try -so much cheaper than the actual paper copy and has some interesting articles.
I got one of those offers, 3 editions of Runners World for £3, I cancelled before I'd received all 3... like Rig I noticed how contradictory some of the articles were, even in the same edition, never mind over several months. It seemed to me that they just go to the internet, and copy and paste stuff. Lazy journalism...
