Losing motivation

Havn't posted or really been on in a while. Still struggling with Week 4. Finally got to run 3 after missed week and W3 repeat and my knee gets hurt again. Never mind 5K or 30 minute graduation. I will be having a big party when I finally beat W4.

Noo... don't give up! I had a few days off with a foot pain and found it tempting to think of stopping ... but then just started where I'd stopped and all went well. (I was surprised) I've got to Wk5r1 yesterday and now I have a problem with one hip hurting. If it still hurts I won't go out tomorrow but I have to say I'm really looking forward to it when i can.

Read your earlier posts. You enjoy running. Does your knee need support? You could always get a physio referral for advice.

Good luck!

Well done for sticking with it and not giving up. Every week is challenging and my old knees ache because maybe my legs are not used to moving like this (I am 51)! I was cycling and walking between runs but now I am on week 5, I rest on days when I am not running in the hope I can get further. Week 4 is quite challenging with a 5 minute run so well done. I am not sure my sore knee is something that should make me stop or repeat a week, I am sure it is normal to have some aches and pains, keep up the good work. Week 5, day 1 is fine because u did a 5 minute run already, day 2 a little more challenging with 2 x 8 minute runs but if you go slow and breathe, if you can do 5, u she be able to do 8! Day 3 with a 20 minute run, have yet to do (tomorrow is the day) but people on the forum have done it, so here goes LOL

Don't worry about the 30 minutes or 5K. I think at this stage in the program it seemed pretty unattainable to most of us! The fact that you've got to where you are is great. Well done!

What have you done to your knee? Is it injured or just getting used to the exercise?

I know I struggled with my knees to start off with and had to wear a tubigrip for support for most of the programme. Up until about week 7 I think? Mine wasn't injury, just my joints getting used to doing what they're supposed to! If that's your issue then you might find the knee strengthening exercises useful to do. I know it helped me.

Otherwise you might need to take a trip to the doctor to find out what the problem is if it's an injury.

Give us all a shout when the party's on and we'll all give you a virtual clink of glasses ;)

Don't give up. Keep running :) xx

Hi Guys

Thanks for the lovely posts. Think it is probably runners knee. Sharp shooting pain from behind joint and front of knee. Spoke to an instructor in gym who is an avid runner and he advised a use a machine in the gym that mimics running without the strain on joints so think I will give that a go to keep up the momentum.

My 13 year old daughter is joining gym next week as she wants to start running with me. (think I inspired her a little) this is helping with the none quitting. Have to say posting worries and getting helpful responses really does help. Again thanks guys!!

Have you tried getting a support for your knee? I had to get one for my ankle after kicking the bed frame in my sleep and really hurting it, I found it helped loads.

Also get some ibuprofen gel and rub that on before you go that might help as well.

You should celebrate it is your achievement!
