If you hit the end, and you feel like carrying on, I would vote in favour of following that impulse. It's not just about getting more training; it's about affirming the joy of it all. What better time to run than when that's want your body Wants to do? It's an opportunity to give yourself some Pavlovian conditioning I think you should seize.
I've actually been doing this for a while. I spare myself enough to be sure of completing the day's goal, and sometimes there's still some "fuel in my tank" after that, so I then go about "running my legs empty". Works for me. If you try it, you'll soon know if it works for you.
