Hi I've just completed my first run of the second week and I'm completely exhausted ! like completely knackered !!! Is this normal?
2nd week: Hi I've just completed my first run of... - Couch to 5K
2nd week
Yep. Take a rest day or two, and when you come to run it again, slow it down, make sure you have a bit more in the tank at the end.
A lot of this programme is about learning to pace yourself. When we hear/ see run, it really means light jog. The important bit is you got through it. You have learnt from it, and your complaining body (with a bit of rest) will benefit from it.
Lot of factors could be involved. Personally, my Asthma and some other physical drawbacks can still leave me wiped out surprisingly quickly
But "Slow...then slower still" got me to graduation and beyond It's all about building up stamina incrementally - speed and distance flow on later
If I were starting all over again I would wish someone would have got it through my stubborn head that it's all about the journey really + graduation is the icing on the Rum Cake
Thank you that's really good advice, it's definitely worth remembering slow & steady 😜
It is quite normal to feel exhausted after just starting a new fitness programme.
If you had been going to spin class or gym circuits or whatever 3 days a week, would you expect to feel any less tired?
It will pass and your stamina and strength will improve massively. Noob gains are dramatic.
Make sure the fuel tank is not empty and that you are adequately hydrated and that you have slept well the night before a run. I used to find myself dropping off at work when I first started but now a morning 5k sets me up for the day. It will improve.
Good point
I do like to run in the morning and have breakfast when I get back.
Jam123 - I am in the process of thinking of all sorts of reasons not to start week 2 - so am following your progress with interest. The time of day/pacing/banana intake, all sound helpful. Week 1 made me very hungry but didn't help with insomnia! Good luck - keep going (and posting).
