Post injury progress - feeling slow and frustrated!! πŸ˜’

Just over 9 weeks since I tore my left gastroc calf muscle, (as some of you may remember) and was unable to run (on advise from physio) until 3weeks ago. Having made it to the week 8 runs previously, I am now back at Week 4, taking it easy and slowly building up the strength in my leg. However, it still feels a bit too much like hard work and I'm sure I am tensing up in fear of it popping again! In the meantime I have embraced the world of strength and flexibility - calf raises, all manner of stretches, foam rolling and yes even squats! BUT when I'm out running, it all feels harder than it used to and I have to admit I felt quite flat after this mornings run because 'it just ain't what it used to be' and I want the buzz back! No problems getting out there, just feel a bit flat on return.

On a more optimistic note, having seen all the lovely pictures posted on here recently, I have decided to treat myself to a new pair of shoes and gait analysis at Sweatshop. Guess this means I still intend to be a proper 'runner' again one day!

Yeh good for you, keep with it. I feel so lethargic today after those interval training session last night. My right hand hamstring feels tight and I feel as limp as a vickers hand shake. I normally do 4 miles on a Thursday, but after last night I'll do it tomorrow. You'll enjoy you experience at sweatshop I'm sure. Its amazing all the ups & downs of running.

Thank you. My leg is feeling good after this mornings run so I am feeling more positive again! My physio did say it would be several months before it felt fully back to normal, so onwards and upwards. I can only get quicker!πŸ˜€

Good to hear you're back out there, Sandra . It is a bit scary your first run back isn't it ? I think you're hoping you don't kick your injury off again .

I've actually been quietly back out there for a couple of weeks poppy! It is great to be out again, but still quite early days as far as the ol'leg goes. Will hopefully keep you all updated on my speedy πŸ˜‰ progress! thanks for your thoughts.

Glad that you're back and running! That's a positive. You do lose fitness so it will take a while to get it back. You will though, especially with the exercises that you're doing. As you do them you will get stronger and that will support your running. I found once I started doing core exercises etc that I gained more puff

So, where's the photo of the new shoes? It's the law round here to post pics of new shoes!

Haven't got them yet but hope to in next few days. Since my injury and all these strengthening exercises my old shoes don't feel as comfy...that's my excuse anyway!

Thank you - I know I've done everything right and am lucky in that I found an amazing physio. The support on here is a massive motivator too Isn't it?
