I commiserate - I have runs like that too. Put behind you and move on. And a good pat on the back for hanging on in there - whether or not you enjoyed it, you kicked that run's butt!

Err no I didn't it kicked my butt.. Told me what an unfit s.o.b. I really am.. But heyho onwards we go .. Next the infamous wk 6 r1 !

Compare today's "unfit S.O.B" with the one who did W1R1 -you should change your tune and shake up that attitude a bit, buster. W5R3 is done and dusted, so YOU won. Now off you go to muzzle those gremlins and put them in a dark corner of your mind.

Gremlins have nothing to do with it ! Legs just felt empty is all

Ha ha love that post! Honesty! Don't worry, chum, you will get fitter, but you just have to put the hours and miles in. Keep going. :)

Honest hopefully, I try, all my friends say I'm very trying 😣

You have my sympathy, it's a tough one but at least you did it.

It's a heck of a leap from what you've been doing so far but at least you've got it under your belt.

There's just a few small increases to go and you'll have finished it.

Anaverageman profile image
AnaveragemanGraduate in reply to Usain_Balti

Lol just a few small increases namely 4 weeks of the same and more?

Hey Mr Average, look at it this way.......very soon you will be fitter than an average man and the effort required to get there needs acknowledgement from yourself and, god forbid, maybe even a bit of self praising. Stick with it and even if you don't enjoy running, then you will appreciate the accrued benefits.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Always smiling , carrying on running.. Its just the two facts are totally unrelated....

I'm just coming up to that one. Seems a hell of a leap from Wk5R2 though. How did you manage that?

Anaverageman profile image
AnaveragemanGraduate in reply to west4

Well you manage cos you do.. Is all I can say ( which admittedly is inhibiting for conversation) .. You've done everything up to here , you'll manage I am sure

west4 in reply to Anaverageman

I did. Surprisingly, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Can't say I'm loving the running but enjoying the achievement

thats ( to me) a good start...

"Just thank feck its over". That means you got some satisfaction by finishing it. That's what most of us find satisfying: getting to the end of a run :-)

I know how you feel did mine last night ended up walking 20 seconds in middle (don't really know why) I just panicked. Feel really pants now. Will try again tomorrow . Run 1 and 2 were fine so don't really know. I couldn't run much slower without walking. Granted I am much fitter than I was (but not as fit as I think I should be) if it doesn't work tomorrow I will repeat the week. It was my first bad run and it had to happen sometime. Worst thing is I did run for 11 mins non stop which would be a celebration at any other time! I am not giving up though.

I am sure you will be fine tomorrow. It sounds like you really didn't NEED that walking break so, the silver lining to this cloud, is that you pretty much do know that you can do the twenty minutes.

Dex, admitting your weaknesses is to me a beginning of your sense of strength... Pride goeth before the fall... You've done great so far, you will do again, sometimes will be good sometimes bad...for often no discernable reason.

Done it Saturday morning. Much better run much better frame of mind. Ready for week 6 run 1 tonight . My issue will be the 25 min run at the end of this week. I run better in the morning so will save that for Saturday morning!

I think finding the right time for doing it is important... But if you can DO 20 ( and you now can!!) you can do 25!

Well done AAM.

Your conclusion that is was hard because you are unfit is probably correct. We know what the best way to fix that is, right?

Why do I always agree with you Dunder?! Keep going AAM, post again next week.

So funny! No encouragement coming but just saying that you did it and you'll probably do w6r1.

Anaverageman profile image

Not probably I KNOW I will, never doubt it for a second...good 'reverse psychology' there though 😊

I thought I would let you know that I started this programme in February, so nine weeks from then I should have graduated in April, right?

Wrong. For various reasons, I have just completed week 8.

BUT. I can now run 28 minutes nonstop. I have never, ever been able to do that!

Keep going, at the pace you need to take. Just stick at it. You WILL get there!

😀

Ha-we're of a like mind. Funny thing is, it's still possible to get faster and fitter without enjoying running at all. What you will find though is that once you've developed core fitness is that you can go for a gentle run and hardly get out of breath. But performing at or near your limits will always hurt and that's true of any sport.

Personally, I have a rewards scheme in place. That and the thought of the health benefits are enough to keep me going. Didn't fancy going for my usual long run yesterday morning-AT ALL. Still did it though, and the coffee and croissant breakfast afterwards was lovely: connect.garmin.com/modern/a...

Onwards and upwards!
