Not last!

Ok so i took part in my first competitive race for years tonight, a 5k along Rhyl prom. What an eye opener, to start with it was fast...really fast and a definate learning curve for me. The starting pace was way too fast for me and i wish i had hung back and gone at my own pace, but hey ho we live and learn. Anyway i finished and my time was around 37 minutes so not too shabby. I did stop once but only to help an old guy who took a tumble, he still beat me though!! All in all i enjoyed it my brother did it too slightly better time than me and our other halves where there to cheer us on so its all good, bit sore now but happy ☺

Well done jules.

It is very easy to get carried away with the crowd and run much faster than you really want to. As you say, we live and learn.

Any plans for a bling race?

It's funny, but no matter what the race or the type of competitor, everyone always seems to go off far too fast! I make a point of always starting near the back to avoid getting caught up in the rush, but it still happens. Anyway, it sounds like you enjoyed it. I remember dreading my first race, but I'm utterly hooked now. There are plenty of events out there, what are you planning to enter next?

Well done you, and congratulations! And I think it is *very* common that we start too fast due to eagerness, that's one of those lessons that we each have to learn the hard way.

Thanks Tomas and yes your right, although it was a very fast race I have learned a valuable lesson.
