I have enjoyed this wee. But what is making it hard is its playing with my asthma. This last run i had to take my inhaler 3 times and in the last run my chest got really tight. Think im going to have to go back to doctor and see if i can have a syronger inhaler.
Last run week 4: I have enjoyed this wee. But... - Couch to 5K
Last run week 4
Well done alarkin. Must be tough running with Asthma but hopefully it will get easier
It seems quite a few are running with it. I notice on my jog group that there are some puffing on inhalers. One lady tells me she can't run all year round because of it but does what she can
You'd think it would improve as you get fitter but I don't know enough about it to comment with any certainty
My son had asthma though and his doc (without our knowledge upped his dose) My son got awful tremors and it was then we checked the box and saw that it was stronger. I rang the chemist who rang the doc who confirmed he'd strengthened the dose. He couldn't carry on with the stronger stuff and went back to normal dose and was fine on it. Your doctor will be the one to ask though so you might need to arrange a visit sooner rather than later, for reassurance for one thing
Hopefully it gets better for you. A colleague's husband found his asthma improved as he finished the program, and be has continued to run primarily for that reason.
Hi Alarkin
I started running because of my asthma! After years of avoiding all cardio exercise because it would make me wheezy I finally got myself sorted with a couple of inhalers and today finished wk7. My asthma nurse was very insistent that I should always have a couple of puffs of ventolin about 15mins before starting any kind of exercise to avoid setting off an attack. I've done this religiously and although I do seem to spend every run panting desperately it's not due to my chest tightening up, I'm just horribly unfit. Also I run very slowly so I don't completely lose control of my breathing and try to time it to my steps. I wouldn't say I've got the hang of it properly yet but I am managing the longer runs without having to stop.
Hang on in there. You made need a higher dose of meds so it's worth a chat with your doctor or nurse but you'll get there.
