Where do you all prefer to run?

I've noticed a few posts of people using the gym etc. I go to some deserted playing fields locally, it's high up and has lovely views. That Spurs me on as I enjoy my surroundings. Is it very different running on a tread mill?

Does anyone run on the beach?

I much prefer running outside but then, I'm lucky to live in beautiful Devon. Have tried treadmill but found it much harder than outdoors

I do most of my running on country roads. It needs some care, but if you wear hi-vis kit and run facing the traffic, its OK. Now and again I run around a country park, but for me, there's nothing like a an early morning run on newly laid Tarmac stretching out in front of me.

Wherever it is nice and quiet really.

I have a 5Km loop of country/farm roads nearby that I walked a couple of weeks ago and saw a grand total of 3 cars.

Trails are good too but certainly more energy sapping.

I can't imagine enjoying a treadmill.

I am lucky to live by the sea, but it's a pebble beach. Although there's a strip of sand at low tide, I prefer to run on the promenade and on the paths criss crossing the common behind the promenade. I also sometimes run on compacted soil paths through parkland. I do have a gym membership but revert to the treadmill when it's the only viable option to get in a run on a given day. I also am motivated by running through an attractive landscape and I like the chaplenge the elements bring to an outdoor run. I find treadmill running boring.

I sort of have to use a treadmill and it's good for walk/run or hill training, but long runs are a problem - so boring. Outside is better and I do parkrun regularly. I'm running on the beach path at lanzarote at the moment and it's awesome. I've done several runs this week with different degrees of success. I imagine that running the promenade at Brighton (which I know a bit) would be brilliant too - cooler for one thing. I'm told that running on sand is hard

I run on the beach as I live sort of by the beach. I would love to run in a forest or in the lush countryside. I like the smell and the view. I think it is nice to run in a pleasant area to be able to get drunk on view and oxygen.

Defo outside for me. I'm very lucky that I have countryside & a beach to run alongside (I run on the prom not the sand). I also have some lovely parks only a short drive away but outside all the way.

I use the treadmill if I must (eg if away & not sure of the area) but otherwise outdoors all the way for me ☺

I prefer outside like park run for challenges as they have hills and I run country path quite flat during week. Also use treadmill when too cold as I'm wimp 😀 any is good so go for it and enjoy x

I've only run on a treadmill for gait analysis.

I'm very landlocked but have run on a beach whenever I've had the opportunity. Certainly exercises different muscles but a lovely experience (even in the rain and with a nuclear waste dump nearby)

I always try to stay off tarmac and try not to run on hard surfaces (eg trails) too many times in succession. I run lots of different routes and places and get a lot of psychological/spiritual satisfaction as well as improving physical fitness. (I do though really love hearing about people's runs through cities)

I'm lucky to live in the French countryside, so it's country lanes for me. Sunshine, birds and the occasional tractor for company - perfect. Running outside helps me get into a positive mindset and get a fix of fresh air and nice views.

Tried a treadmill in a gym once a very long time ago. Got thrown off the treadmill within minutes and felt very inferior to the lycra-clad Twiglets/musclemen strutting their stuff nearby. Never again. :D

No treadmills for me. That's prob'ly cos I don't have one. I can't see myself doing any distance on one though. It must seem interminable

running outdoors on the road, but particularly the trails, just eats up the miles in double quick time so you'll be back on your doorstep before you know it. Always something to see on either. New streets to check out or a new country lane. You get much more inquisitive about where you live once you take to two legs to get about

Starting to feel jealous of all you country dwellers. I live in the London suburbs so I've been on the shared cycle/pedestrian paths. A41 and A5 for me this morning. Ah the glamour, the traffic, the McDonald's....

Outdoors! I live in a beautiful place and unless an Atlantic storm is blowing I always run outdoors

Along country roads and boreens, not much traffic at all, if the timing is right (holidays and hay making time are the worst for it) and definitely more cattle than humans :)

I would love to run off road but it's all private land, the one trail nearby is on a hill that looks like a mountain to me - surely, there are a few young ones that can run up the hill, not me though - yet...:) , : every now and then I do drive the 40 minutes it takes to reach a lovely forest path.
