And whats your average time now?
Graduates: what time did u complete your first... - Couch to 5K
Graduates: what time did u complete your first ever 5k in?
Around 35 minutes. My quickest to date is 29.52, although I can't say that I have been working on getting my time down lately - just running regularly.
34 minutes.....and as of now around 27 mins comfortable. Having started on the C25K I'm indebted to the programme - I now do no shorter than 10 miles on weekly basis. I'm sure I could shave some time off my 5k but I'm enjoying the longer runs. Work hard, enjoy your runs and your own times will drop.
My graduation run was 32mins if I recall correctly, my fastest ever time was 29min32secs , am considerably slower after a long break but getting back on it now!
37 down to 31 minutes is a huge difference!! Wow!! Well done!
I am only on week 8 run 1 so havent graduated yet. I am aiming to graduate by completing the 30 minute runs and THEN aim for achieving 5k (in any time). In my 28 minute run for week8 run2 i covered about 4k I think but not toooo worried about distance currently- just trying to complete the runs ha.
I did my first 5k age 55 on w9r3. Took about 38minutes and I was delighted
I graduated about 3 weeks ago and did my first 5k shortly after in around 35 mins. Yesterday morning I ran 6k and my splits show my first 5k at 33:30. Thus, if I continue to reduce my time by 30 seconds per week I'll easily be doing 5k in 25 minutes by Christmas Only joking ............ A sub 30 minutes time in my lifetime would be brill though - here's hoping!
Hi
My week nine runs were5k in 30 mins and then it fell apart. Lots of tests and it turns out I pushed myself so hard I was ketotic i.e producing ketones fom muscle breakdown. I wasn't eating enough and running too hard. Take care peeps!!! . I now do 5 k in around 35 mins sometimes faster sometimes slower. Frankly I don't care about time, I know I can go faster but I am not pushing that hard. , just letting fitness develop over time , I do intervals now and am amazed at what we can do. I guess the secret is listen to your body but don't give in too easily. After all good things come to those who wait and try
Hi,
Just checked back and I did my first 5k in W9R3 in 36:15. My best to date was set 9 months later, last May, at 28:34 over largely the same course. Since then I've been concentrating on building distance rather than speed.
My first 5k was just under 40 mins. My current parkrun pb is 31:58 and Zi'm still working on it. I tend to focus more on distance than times, but parkrun stats get to you!
You are still a young girl!!!
Did my first 5K in 27:39 - It was supposed to be the 25min run at the end of week 7 but I was going so well that I continued for the full 5K. I currently run a 5K at parkrun in the 23:15 (my PB) to 23:22 range.
I do the odd slow 5K recovery jog, but tend not to run a 5K at a timed pace apart from parkrun at the moment. I like to go out for a full 30 minutes where possible (which means more than 5K) because I've been doing Jantastic which requires a minimum 30 minute exercise period. When I do a parkrun on Jantastic I have to jog down or back from parkrun to make the time up. I've also been doing some longer runs in the 10-16K range recently.
I'm 61 and took up C25K in November, but I was probably rather fitter than the average newbie when I started (I do a fair amount of cycling).
35:09 for the first and 30:29 now. I love every time I shave a second off - doesn't happen too often.
Can I tag on and ask a second question? How is everyone measuring their distance/times? I've tried setting edomondo as I start my c25k session but it doesn't give me breakdowns for the running part separate from the walking part. Do you just set it at the start of the actual running part? Or do you use something more sophisticated?
Same here, a Garmin watch too, with a "flying start", by which I mean I hit the start button three or four strides into the run when I'm 'up to speed'....... It probably makes no difference to my time, but i do it"just in case". Daft really!
I don't remember at all, which I think is reassuring. On a reasonably quick day these days I'm doing 9 minute miles on my 30-40 minute runs, which I think would make my 5k time just under 28 minutes. But I'm more interested in distance and big hills :).
I do recall completing 5k around week 7 or 8 but I was quite speedy towards the end of the programme (which surprised the hell out of me ).
My best 5k is 23:12. I am nowhere near that sort of pace at the moment tho
I graduated in roughly 29.15 in August last year and have got my PB down to 24.11 now with average being below 25 minutes
I pulled put a 28.50 at the end of the programme, but was pushing myself faster than I should have been at the time. My average time at the moment (or when I was running not sitting on the IC) is probably just under 30 mins. I can do it faster if I want, and do in races, but on regular training days, 5k distance is either for a recovery run after a long distance or for hillwork.
SPeed really isn't very important to me, to be honest.
Ahh you're still a young girl Kittykat!
All my 5km's are under 30 minutes - measured with my nike+ sportwatch and at ParkRun. My graduation run was ParkRun just under 29 minutes. Over the course of 10 Parkruns I improved my times, aiming for 25 minutes. That was when I developed my stress fracture in my femur and was unable to run from October to the end of the year. From January this year I have not been too bothered about speeds and times.
My first 5km was 48 min and it took me months after gradation to get there. My current time is 42 min. I have done one park run at 38 min but that was a little too fast for me. I plod with pride and am training for a half marathon. No matter what your time, I always say to everyone I meet "run with pride."
Ran my first 5k in 34:55 on Feb 13, down to 27:24 this week.
Might try a parkrun this weekend to see if competition improves things
Um, I think my first 5k which was no more than a couple of months post graduation was an hour and ten minutes. Certainly over an hour. PB is under 44 minutes, the last two have been 48 minutes. Nearly 3 years post grad.
Graduated in August, ran a 5K fun run the same week in about 44 mins. Took two months off to find a gym so I didn't have to run in the dark (I know, I know) then took six weeks to get back to running full 5k distance. It took me about 52 mins the first time in the gym - now down to 47 inside and 43 outside at parkrun last week.
I did my first 5K today, during W10R2, in 35:33.
My 1st was 30:18 Feb 14, I usually do around 27mins and PB 26:15. I'd love to break below the 26 but can't see it happening, as I really do run all out and my runs during the week are often interrupted (usually) needing the loo. I have been to GP and it is child birth damage. I have to pick my times to run with other people very carefully!
My first 5K was as an undergraduate (W8R2) at the Poole Christmas Day parkrun in 2013, with a finishing time of 33:48. I graduated a week later at the same place in 29:34 and my 5K PB now sits at 23:18. I can run 24 mins without too much trouble but I'll need to train a bit more for the the next PB. Spring is in the air now, so no excuses!
All us boys still have a mental age of 14 KK
Thanks KK, yes, back out running this year and achieved my worst-ever time at ParkRun last Saturday (still under 30 minutes though ) It has taken me a while to get back to my previous level of fitness but have been out 3 times per week all year.
My first 5K was a bit over 47 mins, now I do around 40, with a one-ff PB of 36,,,I use Runkeeper.
My first was 33.04 and most recent was 28.09 which is best I've managed so far! I use runtastic to track mine so perhaps not as accurate as a garmin but I'm happy enough with that for now
37.35. My pb is now 36.21. I also did a 38.26 which included two 5 minute walks (w9r2). I guess that makes my average about 37.30 I think.
