...is Davina, and her arms and core workouts. Avoiding the legs ones as mine still don't work (the right one, anyway)
Haven't been out since I did a mile last Wednesday. It doesn't feel... Safe. Leg feels weak and painful on one particular point on shin. It doesn't really hurt when I prod it though, only whilst going up and down stairs or speed walking or running, at which point it Proper Hurts with Capitals and Everything.
I went to the doc's, just to make sure it wasn't anything more serious, and got sent away with a flea in my ear. He said, you know what it is, you're doing the right things, why are you here? I said, because I can't believe something that's been this painful for so long can't be, well, bone related. He said, it's soft tissue, it can take weeks and weeks, go away. I said how long do I need to give it to see if it improves at all, don't tell me another 6 weeks? He said well, I dunno, how about you come back in 6 weeks if it's not better. No actually don't bother, just phone. I'll write you an X-ray form. But I'm not writing you one now. He said "I don't know what it is with you runners. There are other forms of exercise you know. You can swim, right?"
"I don't know what it is with you runners"????
Gaaaah.
Still... Got shapely legs now thanks to all physio exercises and my core is stronger thanks to Smug Davina. Must. Be. Patient.

Doctors! Pah! I sometimes wonder what their motivation is.
I hate swimming in uk pools. Expensive. Horrible changing rooms. It's either lane swimming with people who go a lot faster or a lot slower than me and get the hump because I'm in their way, or it's full of teenagers snogging or kids leaping in the pool and landing on top of me.
Thank goodness for running or I'd never have got into exercise.
It sounds as though you're doing exactly the right thing and resting up till your leg recovers at its own pace. Well done for doing Davina. I was introduced to kettlebells by 'no-excuse' here - such fun!
Yeeeeurch I know! And don't get me started on the loos! My local pool had an infestation of cockroaches in the changing rooms. I loved swimming once, it was fab when I had the post natal blues, but now I get bored and frustrated. Yep: too slow for the lanes, too fast for the general bit.
GP's ey. They're so lovely and caring aren't they. LOL
Keep resting up while enjoying your Davina workouts. It'll be well worth it Allie and you'll come out of it a stronger runner. I know it seems an age to be away from running but in the scheme of things it's not at all. The workouts will really help your running and make you fitter and have more stamina. Plus you'll look like a Godess!
I don't understand, why don't doctors like runners?? What did we do to upset them?? I thought as humans we were designed to run - you know the whole hunter gather thing.
I agree public swimming pools are dangerous places. I would never swim in my local one, will maybe with a full spacesuite complete with helmet.
You'd think, wouldn't you! I read somewhere recently that early humans ran everywhere. Plus it's free, it's outside, you can hardly stuff your face with doughnuts whilst running along (although I suppose you could...) the NHS will operate on the morbidly obese to shrink their stomachs, but why do doctors seem so impatient with people trying to stop the fat creeping on in the first place?
This is my question, it annoys me especially when we all pay tax. I mean all the information eat right, exercise that's what we are doing and then it seems runners are dismissed at the doctors. I mean we just want to know what's wrong and how long we will out action for. One good thing in chile the doctors are always happy to see patients but at £50 a time you do get a full hour and the answers to your questions. imagine an hour with your gp listening to you and taking you seriously (plus they speak English fluently) oh well. The nhs is doing its best under the strain of too much work.
I know, my poor old beloved NHS. It's all so disjointed these days, none of the bits fit together properly anymore. We're damn lucky to have it at all though, in an emergency it's incredible.
