Ankle pain

After managing to run 5k in 34 mins I did a park run in 35mins but now my ankles hurt.

Are my shoes at fault or did I just over do it?

Did a little running years ago but this is the furthest I have run ever.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Why not go to a proper running shoe dealer and get your gait analysed? That should tell you if it's the shoes.

I went to the sweat shop and got half way through analysis but had to go to another appointment. When I got back to the sweatshop no one even aknowledges me so I walked out.

But I'll try again. Can you recommend anywhere ? I'm in Surrey

Thanks

I live in Oxford and went to "Up and Running" - they were good. There's a list of their stores at upandrunning.co.uk/

There'll be other running shops around too (Surrey's quite a wide area!) so have a look on the internet for ones nearby :)

I think you overdid it. If you haven't run for ages then you need to ease back into it. Your mind might be up for it but your body probably wasn't. Rest up and take the next run a bit steadier

Thanks for your help all. Going to up and running in Kingston for free gait analysis, and relaxing lol.

I had ankle pain during week 7 and it stopped me for a full week but today I am back! I've used ice, rest, brufen gel etc. I think it's too much too soon for me :) maybe try more rest days?

I got ankle pain when I pushed myself too hard and stopped spending as long on my stretching. As soon as I reinstated the stretches and didn't push myself on the pace they improved 80%. I finally shook off the niggles with the new shoes post gait analysis. Good luck finding your solution as I remember how much it hurt and worried me that I would have to stop running!

Your ankles hurt after one run? or continuously since the run and every time you have run since? How much pain on a scale of 1-10?

If less than a couple of days and a 4 or less on the painometer... that's just the way it goes when you push the envelope.

If it's been a week or more or you're up around 7 or 8, then Houston, you have a problem.

Not what you're looking for?
