Does anyone spin?

I run. I love running. But can I spin? No, I can not! Tried my first ever class this morning and it was a bit of an epic fail. Those guys on the bikes are hardcore! I kept my legs moving and all, but had to be a bit sly about the lower level of resistance I was using in comparison. Any spinners on here? Is it just a case of perseverance?

know the feeling - and I actually cycle a fair amount - my biggest problem was that the spinning bikes weren't fixed to the floor all that well, so the whole thing toppled over when we were supposed to lean on it and do some stretching in the end - once in a lifetime experience - not to be repeated;-)

Well, then thank God it's not just me. I don't think I'll be rushing back any time soon.

Even though you use your legs for both activities, it is (to a large extent) different muscles. So being a good runner (whatever good means) is not the same as being a good cyclist. As you have noticed :)

I'm training for a triathlon and have been cycling since New Year. I'm slowly getting slightly faster, but it's hard work and feels very different to running.

I did it once years ago and nearly had a heart attack! Found it really tough. But then once upon a time I found running for 5 minutes really hard!

I hated it the first time and couldnt even stand up. Gave it another shot and been doing it for a year now. Its like anything else, it takes time to get used to. Our instructor always says hes only there to guide and its your ride so do it as you please.

But everyone is different :)

I'm glad I'm not alone. I am tempted to try again soon (especially since you've all confirmed it's not just me) but I think it would take me forever to get up to a speed where I feel I'm actually doing some good. Hmm......Thanks all.

I have been spinning for 8 years.Like you my first class was tough! The instructor was very friendly and told me after 3 classes I would start to find it a little easier.I found this to be very good advice.I love my weekly class for 45 mins and burn approx 500 calories.I still can't spin at the speed some people manage.I would recommnend you keep going at your own pace and you will soon notice an improvement.Let me know how you get on.Remember it is not a race and we are all different.Just do what you can and your stamina will soon improve.
