PLEASE DON'T TELL THE WIFE....

But I have decided to buy a Petzl Nao 575 headtorch.

I shall buy her a prezzie too, but as I have been off running with a poorly ankle...sympathy please...I think I deserve something!

Any suggestions for what to get the memsaab would be most welcome.

Thanks. The ankle is getting better, but I popped my wellies on yesterday morning to get the chickens up, and OUCH, OUCH, OUCH. Still a good way to go.

I may have to see the quack if it's not better by Monday...just in case I have done more damage than I think/hope I have.

By Monday the oil should be here, and a warm cottage awaits. Then I can take my umpteen layers off...that may help the healing process!

Hope the ankle gets better soon. Looks like a good bit of kit. My favorites for pampering from my husband are free. Cuppa in bed, cooking for me, you know all the stuff it's nice to have a break from.

in reply to Realfoodieclub

Ahh, I do all the cooking anyway. She works really, really hard, and I bimble along working for myself and fetching and carrying our son whilst doing the house work. What a Domestic God(dess) I am?!

Hi. Thanks for the thoughts, but it was caused by an argument between a very large lump of granite (Hound Tor on Dartmoor), and my ankle. My ankle hurts, but you ought to see the other 'chap'!!

Hope your ankle feels better soon, Sally. Do take it easy during recovery.

Nice piece of equipment, and of course it's neither a toy nor a treat, it is simply a matter of keeping yourself safe and injury free. As such Ms Sally should understand that by buying the torch, you are giving her the invaluable gift of having you around in a fit state for years to come. Really, it's for her sake more than anything that you have bought the torch. So in fact it's her owing you a gift now, not the other way around!

My Mrs wouldn't accept that explanation, but it's worth a try ;-)

in reply to Tomas

I fear that if I tried your 'logic' with the Mrs, I may be walking awkwardly for a different reason!!

I can... sort of... just about...if I squint and have the-wind-behind-me-whilst-going-down-hill, justify it as a legit business expense.....!

Woahh! Dude, are you sure?

I very nearly bougth one of those last year on the strength of great reviews in running mags etc. Then a bushcrafty friend suggested I try an Alpkit one. I bought this one - it was £100 cheaper than the cheapest I could find the Petzl, so I figured it was worth taking the chance. I am very glad I did. It is a great piece of kit - throws a really strong beam a great distance, adjusts up and down, all the same stuff the Petzl does, is robust and comfortable to wear - just a hundred quid less:

I have an Alpkit (who are a brilliant company [excuse the pun]) but I need a brighter light for Dartmoor at night.

I would never hesitate to push Alpkit - amazing lights - but in really, really dark conditions, and on very dodgy ground, I just need the extra light...and the auto-dimming is a boon too!

I shall be using my Alpkit tomorrow when I marshal on a night run. Can't run myself due to ankle!! :~(

And you can always use the torch to check on the chooks at night :) You really want to spoil her and live in a cold cottage (how I can relate to this you can't even imagine!) ? I once saw a beautiful cachemire dressing gown - it's only 6 times the price of the torch! :)

in reply to Pigivi

Coo, that's expensive for a dressing gown! I hope it was truly wonderful, and that someone took your hints and bought it for you! I could buy 1200 litres of oil for that price!

We only have 3 hens, Penny, Margaret and Heather, but they do lay year round. Good girls!

Now, where's me debit card...?

Yep, that's why it's still in the shop!

Have 4 hens and they are all on strike at the moment ..

in reply to Pigivi

Spoil them. Cooked spud peelings, organic layers pellets and mixed corn.

You can always go and visit it in the shop. I do with certain clothes I covert.

I did that once with a beautiful book of drawings by Frank Lloyd-Wright - it was about 500 euro and stayed in that bookshop for months - I would go, open it at random and admire ... :)

in reply to Pigivi

I fear I am getting a reputation in some shops. I will go in, touch the clothes, but never try them on, and go back out....

Is that the Architect?

Yes - that's him - one of the three on the podium (according to my personal taste...)

in reply to Pigivi

Not too familiar with his work, but one of my old clients had a wonderful, fully designed classic architect designed house, but I can't remember which architect it was.

One of the big names.

I shall go and feel some clothes this weekend! Mmmmm

Speaking of Frank Lloyd Wright,

"Architects may come and architects may go and never change their point of view

When I run dry I stop awhile and think of you"

Ah, Paul Simon ... lovely

Thanks for reminding me!

Buy your missus something you know she'd like! Easy peasy

Graceland album...wonderful. Our son's rowing coaches favourite; and one of ours too. 25 years in May...where did the time go?

Why do teenagers still refer to music as albums...they have never known the joy of vinyl.

I shall get her something rather lovely..like some new running shoes...

I went to one of the concerts! Happy days

Lucky you.

Actually, I went to the one after the Gracelands; the Brazilian one, Rythmn of the Saints. I'd forgotten that one! He had a stage full of percussion for that one. Never seen the like! Amazing it was. I was really pleased to be able to see Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba as well, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Fab stuff!
