Damn that knee

No running for six weeks now, and none for another six, probably. So jealous when I read posts on here, I miss running so much. Broke into a jog yesterday, as the bus pulled away, and it felt so good, but the quack insists that I rest and exercise gently. Maybe a couple of k for Xmas...

Eee gad. I feel your pain. I have been dogged by a few knee issues over the years and know the frustration it causes.

I hope they heal quickly for you and you can get back too it.

Really frustrating!!! But the longer the rest the more likely you will return to good running form for a sustained period. Hard though that is. Are you able to substitute with a less intensive workout in the meantime? Swimming maybe..? It might give you a bit of that endorphin boost you miss x

Oh such bad news Rigsby. You have my sympathies. I had a couple of months off with knee trouble over the summer and it was awful. The good news is that, despite all my worst fears, a full recovery is possible. I followed all my physio's instructions to the letter, I even gave up wearing my beloved heels (and that's no mean sacrifice when your husband is 11 inches taller than you, I can tell you) What I'm trying to say is, stick with it, be the perfect, patient patient, and don't despair. When you get back out there, all your frustration will be forgotten and the joy will come flooding back. When you do start again, consider getting some gel insoles for your trainers. They've been a revelation to me. They act as little shock absorbers in your shoes and really reduce the impact on your knees- the best £7 I ever spent! Good luck with your recovery, not long now until Christmas :)

Thanks A-M. I'll give the insoles a try, sound like a good idea.

Thanks everyone - it does help to share the frustration! I'm using the horizontal bike at the gym to burn a few calories and keep up my fitness level whilst not able to run, but the scenery is rubbish.

Sorry to hear that Rigsby, I know how frustrated you must feel but follow your doctors advice. Running is for life and you don't want to jeopardise that for the sake of a few weeks.

Maybe by Christmas.....
