Hi ya, i am new to the forum but i have been running for a little while now. I got some thermal Ronhill ones and have been using them a lot lately. I run mostly in the evenings but have found them to be very good. I do not find myself overheating in them at all and they provide a constant level of warmth even when they get soaked in the rain.

I also ride a motor bike and wear them under my leathers and still do not overheat. They do a grand job of drawing the sweat away and keep you feeling dry.

Well worth a purchase for the winter or wet runs.

No probs Rob.

I will just say they can be a little snug *cough to start with and do need to be peeled off when you are finished. :D

normal unless you are in the Arctic Circle.

I ran all last winter in ordinary cotton leggings and they were fine. I think I'd find the thermal ones too hot but it depends on how cold it gets...........

thanks rignold and irish :) seems like normal is the way to go can always get thermal later if it gets too cold

I run in tracksuit bottoms (quickdry ones) as the leggings I bought still make me look like some sort hippo squeezed in the middle, just ain't right on me! Similarly to you8 wondering what I should wear for my Santa dash, will be hot in that suit, but shorts in the middle of December???? Hmm, will have to ponder... If you see some thermals really cheap maybe you should consider just seeing how they are on a cold day - I tend to be very hot and sweaty even after 10 mins so avoiding over-heating is my main goal.

I thought about last nights run and yeah i did get warm very quickly and didnt think about it really , i have ordered some normal for now . if i can manage to upload a pic here i will for a laugh :D

Both :) non thermal for autumn (this weather is great for non thermals) and thermals for when it's gets chillier. I loved my thermals last year, they kept me warm without getting too hot. See how far the non thermals get you and buy a pair later on if your legs start going numb from the cold ;)

thinking the same lovefood thanks :)

I just wear my capris unless it's snowing then it's long running tights, never thermals. I prefer removable layers.

in reply to ju-ju-

Thanks juicy . You mean you run out side in snow too? Wow seriously impressive :-D

I only live in Bristol so it's never knee deep! But there's something magical about running in the dark and snow as it looks like glittery diamonds in the head torch :)

That sounds pretty amazing :-D

I use nike filament, normal ones. They're fine in all, weathers. I fell down today on my run and have skinned my hands and knees, more importantly the knees in my pants! Grrrrr

Running in the dark! Tsk

Hi Rob, I'm not expert, but my serious running colleagues at work swear by the 10 degrees rule.

When you are running, you'll feel the temperature is 10 degrees warmer than it actually is... so dress accordingly:

If the weather is 10 degrees, you'll think it is 20 degrees and need capris/shorts/top.

If the temperature is freezing, you'll think it is 10 degrees and will need tights/top/jacket/gloves

If the temperature is -10 degrees, you'll need a good excuse.

Only exception to the rule is if it is windy and cold.

I'm only just going into my first running winter. I'll tell you in the spring if I should believe my colleagues, but they've been running marathons, HMs and triathlons for years.

I'd just like to point out that I feel proud to be part of a community where (* adopts low blokey-style voice *) the guys can all talk freely about tight fitting leg wear without inhibition.

Just got back from my early morning freezing 5k and Hell yes, i was wearing mine too..... Even if I did put shorts over the top!

in reply to Rob_and_his_westie

Good point :-D

Shorts over the top sounds an excellent idea. I think I might try that if the weather gets too cold for just shorts. I dont think I could bring myself to run just in tights, it really would not be fair to the rest of the world.

in reply to Zev1963

That is very thoughtful Zev :-D

I picked up a pair of Aldis mens tights/trousers when they had them in a couple of weeks ago.

Fortunately it's nowhere near cold enough for me to contemplate wearing them yet. I don't feel the cold much anyway, let alone once I've started running. Only got as far as trying them on at home so far. I am rather dubious about going out in public in them lol.

On the plus side, they were pretty cheap (only a tenner I think) and do seem to fit, maybe a tad long in the leg so I'll end up with a bit of a Nora Batty situation going on.

If they come up long thats good for me :-) when I get mine .1. Will try on at home 2. . Only go out in the dark 3. Still wear shorts :-)

I bought More Mile thermal tights two years ago and only used them a couple of times when it was below -5C. Otherwise they were too hot. Last winter I didn't use long tights at all, as I found capris were fine even in the snow and down to below 0C.

in reply to swanscot

They were the ones I was looking at but have ordered normal now :-D
