I have just finished week 2 and looking forward to week 3. First time ever I have tried jogging ( now 55 ) I am going on holiday soon which will coincide with week 5. Will not be able to continue while away. Any advise on easing myself back into running after holiday.

Well done on making a great start! You will see on here that age is no barrier to doing this, just little gremlins in your mind. I suspect most people are first time runners too, so don't feel alone.

Isn't there space in your case for your trainers? I sneaked mine in and managed to go out first thing in the morning before everyone else got up. It was lovely running in a new place, no great scenic route, but just a few laps of the caravan park. It depends how you feel when you get home, but I think I would probably just do the last run of week 4 again to see how it goes. I'm sure other people will have better thoughts than me about what to do, but I think it probably depends on how active you are on your holiday.

Keep on running, and of course, do enjoy your holiday :)

Hi jadaromi, congratulations on your progress. I am 55 too and had not run before. I agree with MrsSparkle; could you fit your trainers in and run on holiday? If you can't, it depends how long you are away for as to getting back to Couch. I have just had a four week injury break and decided to carry on where I was, but to take it easy. I did a tentative run yesterday, doing the full 25 minutes but with a few short walks interspersed. I felt fine today, so will run the full time on Sunday. It's all about listening to your body and being sensible. Week 5 is a more challenging week, so you might want to repeat some of week 4 to see how you feel. Good luck and happy running x

Thanks for the replies and advice. I am going to Rome then Pompeii and intending to do a lot of walking.

Is there a gym in your hotel with treadmill ? Failing that try doing the last run you did before you went on holiday and see how you get on, then you'll know whether you need to go backwards or forwards in the programme. Rome and Pompeii sound great, hope you have a great holiday !

How long are you away for? I'm not up to week 5, but if you do week four again, once, and it goes ok, then move back to week five. If the week 4 doesn't go well try it again. Until it does! Unless you want to go back to week 3 - it really depends how you feel.

If you do plenty of walking that will help as it's a good cross training exercise. I'd be taking my running shoes as there will be some fabulous scenery to run in which will surely help the runs fairly fly by

Have a lovely time
